I dont know if any one is following Will games in this season, but in Jazz jersey with Jerry making decisions he was much better player, now he is on the loose and he dont look like an all star

Deron got injured the year that he got traded to the Nets, and has never been the same since. Sloan definitely helps though, cause he's one of the best PG coaches the league has ever seen.

System or not, D Will too good of a shooter to shoot how he is.
Well maybe I should rephrase it, he's too not awful of a shooter to shoot how he is

I watched last nights Nets game and the announcers were saying that Deron told them that he was more of a "SYSTEM" point guard and that he didn't like the offense they are running in NJ with all the ISO's.
Deron is a beast in the system pick and roll offense, or structure... as a free lance ISO guard he doesn't have the quickness of other guards. He can, and he is good in spots when he stops and starts because he uses his size very well... but at the end of the day he kills you in a structured offense.
Deron knows Sloan was good for him.

Ya, if you're a PG, you're always going to do better in Jerry's system.
Deron has looked awfully mediocre most of the year. He's just not the same... certainly not in contention for best PG in the NBA anymore... not even in the discussion.

Does anyone ever look better without Sloan, let alone even look as good? I really can't think of a player that played better away from Sloan. Humphries... Millsap maybe.

Boozer has been basically the same player in Chicago, as he was in Utah....... But that's pretty much is.......

I think deep down inside, Deron knows he pooped the bed in Utah and regrets it. He's trying to do the lime light thing in New York/Brooklyn now....but I think he was always more comfortable dominating in a small market.....but what do I know?

This. I totally agree. And I don't blame Deron at all (Even though he technically didn't choose to leave Utah, even though we all know he wanted out at that time.) Most people in their careers dream big, and moving to a bigger market, and making more money. That's just human nature. We all have selfish desires. But I also know that we all believe that family is the most important thing. And I think he's probably started to realize that he misses that stability, and consistency with this organization. And also the feeling of having a tight knit family that this organization is known for. Ugh... Deep down I still ache for a lineup like this (We would have been a top 3 team in the west this year in my opinion, right behind OKC and Memphis):
Jefferson
Millsap
Hayward
Matthews and/or Burks
D. Williams

Deron and Jefferson were a terrible fit.

Deron is still one of the premier pg's in the league. He is struggling with his shot right now, but he's leading his team to wins, and averaging over 10 assists a game. I don't think his shot has been the same since he hurt his wrist. I really don't think Deron's struggles have much to do with playing under Sloan. Sloan was good at making scrubs better.

I think I said it a thousand times: Deron Williams DIDN'T BETTERED HIS GAME ONE BIT SINCE HE ENTERED NBA. He's basically the same player he already was as a rookie. Dude's a lazy egomaniac that never forgot Sloan played McLeod, Palacio in fromt of him while Chris Paul flourished as a rookie. He should have learned and grow up from the experience of earning his spot, but his big self decided not to. Nowadays he's playing like a middle of the pack point guard in his best nights.

outerspacefella - what about the vast improvements we watched him make from rookie year until his 3rd or 4th year. You are dilusional, and apparently there are lots of people on this board very bitter about this Deron still. He's a top-level pg still, ya'll will see. Maybe tonight.

Sloan's system, ran by many people before him, helps team players to succeed. Sloan, as a coach, made scrubs better because he gave them a place in the league if they hustled hard.
But star players under Sloan...Stockton, Malone, Williams can all credit their own abilities and hard work for their successes...not Sloan. Sure it helps that it's was a system predicated on team basketball. Its just ridiculous to infer that Dwill is no good now bc he's not being coached by Sloan. There's very little causation in that line of thinking. Dwill was great over the years here not just because he was a good "system" point guard, but because when the offense didn't work he was great at creating for himself and others - and he still is

lets leav system and all that stuff, very simple example why Deron was better because of Jerry, Sloan was able to keep him in good shape, now Dwill in Brooklyn looks like donut
