Thought I'd take a look at how they compare with stats outside of per/game metrics to get rid of the minutes discrepancy (Paul George plays about 10 more minutes every night)

Categories that Hayward win are in blue, George in red

This is for this season only.

George has benefited from more minutes and essentially being the go-to guy, while Hayward's #'s may benefit from sometimes facing bench players, though he does actually play a lot of important minutes for Corbin.

Shockingly similar players, though, according to these stats.

Hayward doesn't "win" defensive rating, as his is 13 points/possession higher than George's.

Keep in mind that D-Rating is the rating of the TEAM while that player is on the court, while O-Rating is isolated to just those possessions "used" by that player. (At least that's how Basketball Reference does it). So while they seem like parallel measures they're actually telling you very different things.

Edit: not exactly sure how B-R calculates their D-rating. Doesn't seem to be what I suggested. Does anyone know?

ORtg -- Offensive Rating; an estimate of points produced (players) or scored (teams) per 100 possessions.

DRtg -- Defensive Rating; an estimate of points allowed per 100 possessions.

Thanks for the correction; chalk defensive Rtg up to PG

Yeah, I've seen their explanation, which seems to suggest it's team defense. But then look at the defensive rating of the Jazz players: how can the lowest ratings all belong to big men? Shouldn't there be some guards with similar ratings?
