Saw this on another forum. Credit to vegas on Jazzfanz. I thought I would repost here to discuss.

Thought this was interesting.

Bill Oram RT'd this link:

In a single game, from 1985-86 to 2012-13, in the regular season, requiring Points >= 15 and Total Rebounds >= 8 and Assists >= 2 and Blocks >= 4, sorted by ascending Minutes Played.

It is impressive. He needs to show more of that before I crown him. I do like the path that he is on.

well dont be pissed cuz its pretty likely they dont do a thing. The brass will only make a deal that benefits the jazz.

Enes had a great game last night. To be honest though im more impressed with his 17 point dismantling of the LA Lakers LAST year. he came out and just crapped all over the lakers. That lakers team had much better bigs then the Bucks team he faced last night and no one seems to remember it. He went heads up with pau and bynum and worked them both.

Way to nit pick with the stats, you take out one CAT, and you drop him to like 50-100th place. It's a GREAT night, but there 10,000's of historic performances, if we are really going to call this performance historic.

Oh no! Not another ballboy who is more interested in Kanter's minutes than the Jazz's Win-Loss record.

THE JAZZ SHOULD TRADE KANTER SO THAT HE CAN GET MORE PLAYING TIME!!! Uhhm ok.

How many of those performances came on a Wednesday against a team named after an animal?

Not many I'd bet. It was an historic achievement.

He was playing against Samuel Dalembert, Epke Udoh, and Joel Pryzbilla. Need I say more. That was a horrible display of defense the Bucks had on him. Horrendous!

agreed. he had a great game, but like i mentioned in another thread had a great game vs bucks second stringers. no need to get all excited and demand we give the reins of the franchise to him.

on the other hand, i also metioned he had a great game in a win vs Lakers last season when he wen for like 17 and 11 in 18 or 19 minutes, and he was matched up against bynum, pau, and jordan hill. i was much more impressed with that then him pushing epke udoh around.

I don't mean to say I told you so, but I have been saying for awhile Kanter could take over, even if I did think Jefferson was a valuable piece.

Kanter is awesome, and I mean he is no dissapointment at 3rd pick overall. I just think he needs more minutes. A lot of this came from being benched a couple nights in a row for very few minutes of play time, with the 3 big man rotation with Al, Paul and Favors.

Favors and Kanter are more than capable to take over this team...we might not win as many games, but we could use the contracts of the others for spots that we actually need, which is future bench/starters.

Those are some really good defensive centers. In fact, all of them are still in the league because of it. I think people have forgotten that Dalembert and Pryzbilla have started on plenty of teams (and deservingly so). Udoh isn't exactly chopped liver, either. I'm not saying that to claim it was a "historic performance," but it was extremely impressive.

We had a bunch of fans from Turkey last year saying that we should trade Kanter to another team that would start him. He's lumping you in with that bunch. I'm assuming you want to trade Jefferson and/or Millsap.

Exactly what I was thinking. You guys are really overvaluing the defense of starters in the NBA. Guys like Dalambert and Pryzbilla have made their bed in the league by playing defense.

We're also comparing a 3rd year player to a bunch of complete careers.

If this isn't historical enough for you, at least take solace in knowing this is probably only a sign of things to come.

Did you really look this up? I used his actual stats (17, 9, 2, 5) vs the 15, 8, 2, 4 that were used in the original search.
-assists=#1
-rebounds=#1
-pts=#2
-blocks=#2

Great point, it's just one night, but it's encouraging to see him have a historically efficient night. Most starting centers make this list, what set's Kanter apart is that he did it in 7 fewer minutes than ANYBODY has. The previous disparity was 1 minute!

This is only one game, and we have seen tons of scrubs over the years have great games. It was a performance that was way ahead of the competition. It doesn't tell us if he is to be a hall of famer or a scrub in the future. Personally I think Kanter has a bright future, but that is only an opinion at this point.

Another reality that has to be considered is that most of the Hall of famers on the list were playing high minutes, even in their rookie seasons, and probably would make the list, but they were left in. Corbin had Kanter play 17 minutes, who knows what would have happened if he played more.

I think Tim Duncan makes the list in part because Popovich limits his minutes to keep him healthy.

Either way I think we should celebrate what Kanter did that night.

The best way to look at it, is to see Al 2nd year while not starting, and Kanter's 2nd that he is also not starting, even though he is only half way through. I also added Howard, cause he is the considered the best active big man who generally is considered a 5, apparently Duncan is a 4(post Robinson days, and half his rings). Howard actually started every game his first and second year, so got turbo boost on his experience compared to both Al and Kanter. Historically Big Al has had amazing seasons, comparable to Howard. I personally don't think Howard is the best, but its just a general consensus. I think Duncan is the #1 active, cause even though his first 2 Rings were at PF(under robinson), but his other 2 were at C. Since he played PF his second year, I didn't use him.

Averages 2nd Year with total points:

2nd Year @Celtics
Al- 7.9ppg, 5.1rpg, .5apg, .7spg, .8bpg, 1.05 TO and .499 FG% and .642 FT%, all in 18.0 mins 464 total pts

2nd Year @Jazz(just over half a season)
Kanter- 6.4ppg, 4.1 rpg, .4apg, .4spg, .6bpg, 1.48 TO and .545 FG% and .743 FT%, all in 14.3 mins 320 total pts

2nd Year @Magic
Howard- 15.8ppg, 12.5rpg, 1.5apg, .8spg, 1.4bpg, 2.6 TO and .531 FG% and .595 FT% all in 36.8 mins 1292 total pts

Per 48 2nd Year with shooting:

Jefferson:
21.0ppg, 13.5rpg, 1.4apg, 2.1bpg, 1.4spg, 2.8 TO, and 8.5-17.1 shooting

Kanter: PER 16.45
21.4ppg, 13.7rpg, 1.4apg, 1.9bpg, 1.2spg, 5.0 TO, and 9.0-16.5 shooting

Dwight Howard:
20.5ppg, 16.2rpg, 2.0apg, 1.8bpg, 1.0spg, 3.4 TO and 7.4-14.0 shooting

I mean this isn't an exact science, but Kanter is plenty good enough to become the next great Big Man. I mean were sitting on a gold mine with both Jefferson and Big Al...which is why everyone always brings up our big guys every time they talk about Jazz.

As noted on RealGM's wiretap Ante Tomic is the EuroLeague MVP for Feb. This is why I think you at least have to consider Kanter a possible trade suspect. If they can agree to a buyout for Tomic... then Kanter could bring back enough value to help balance out the team.
