Getting Value for Millsap

My assumption is that the jazz will keep Jefferson over Millsap and that trading him for a pick or two now will garner more value now than getting a trade exception in the offseason. I propose something along the lines of:

MILLSAP for OKC. TORONTO PICK AND DALLAS PICK and filler... Collison.and other contracts as needed for cap reasons

We do it for two picks one which will be lottery... OKC does it to win a championship.

I'm not sure Millsap helps them win a championship more than Collison does.

And there's no way they're giving that pick up for him.

no way OKC does it.

1. two picks for millsap is way too much, especially when one is in the lottery with the potential of being quite high.

2. no way they trade collison for millsap. not because he is better (he's not), but because OKC don't want to pay the luxury tax. collison has a 3 year receding deal that pays him 2.9M this year and it is just getting smaller after that. millsap just turned down an 8M per year offer. it's not like they can't use millsap, but it's not like they couldn't use harden either. money talks.

3. the jazz would obviously do this deal, but let's keep in mind the jazz already have two 1st round picks already. what are they going to do with four? there is no guarantee that the jazz will be able to move all of those picks, especially with reports that many teams are looking to trade out of the draft.

4. we couldn't trade millsap last year for draft picks, i don't think we'll be able to do it this year either. i don't think he has that value, though maybe the jazz could work something out if other teams are indeed trying to trade out of the draft.

5. millsap is expiring. we will not get a trade exception for him. it will only clear cap space. you can't trade him in the offseason because by then he won't be a jazz player anymore, but a free agent.

Wouldn't we be able to sign-and-trade him in the off-season for an exception? Much like we did with Boozer?

Based on the new CBA, franchises aren't allowed anymore to sign and trade UFA during offseason.
It's allowed only to RFA. I've been read this in other foruns.

Please someone confirm it (or deny).

I don't see any mention of such a rule.

You can still S&T an UFA. The rules have changed for which teams can participate: receiving team cannot be above the "apron" ($4 million above the tax level) after the trade and team cannot receive a player in a sign-and-trade if they have used the Taxpayer Mid-Level exception that season.

i know he is old but I would think he will make both your young big men look really good really fast but if denver offerd Miller and a first and one of their young players ie Hamilton/fournier for millsap would that interest the jazz any?

Yep. Coon's FAQ says those restrictions start in 2013-2014. Does that mean THIS offseason or next?

The 13-14 season starts when the 12-13 season ends, which is this year.

What are the general thought of Utah fans on Afflalo? Thinking broadly of the Spurs rumoured interest in Millsap or Jefferson and the possibility of a 3 team deal involving Utah/SAS/ORL, based around

Jax to Orlando(Just an EC, Doesn't have value to you as a player)
Afflalo to Utah
Millsap to SAS

With the Spurs giving up some additional fringe guys as Jax for Millsap isn't happening, they'd Probably try to flip Neal and/or Blair to other teams for 2nds and move the second round picks on. Could also give up a 1st, though I doubt they'd give up more than 1.

Thoughts?

Why would Orlando do this? A young extremely talented player, for an old has been who is one of the biggest cancers/coach killers in the league.?

I like this premise and this is something the Jazz would actually consider because it makes us better now and afflalo contract isn't too tough to swallow considering how talented he is and he will still be in his prime throughout the contract. You would have to give orlando alot more like some picks and/or young players but thats not a big deal. I would do this and have afflalo play the 3 while marvin plays the 4 in the starting line up. I think marvin is more suited for PF and it gives us more spacing.

Just read Millsap to Clips for Bledsoe. That would serve the Jazz well I think.

Sources with knowledge of the situation told ESPN.com late Saturday that there is a level of mutual interest between the Clippers and Utah Jazz in exploring a deal that would feature Bledsoe as the headliner in a trade package for Jazz forward Paul Millsap.

Although two sources with knowledge of the Clippers' thinking insisted during All-Star Weekend that Bledsoe would not be moved in coming days and strongly predicted that L.A. would stand pat, two other sources indicated that the Clippers and Jazz will at least discuss the feasibility of a trade headlined by Bledsoe and Millsap before the deadline.

great deal for utah IMO. don't really know why clips would do that. i dunno if sap is gonna be interested in resigning as a sixth man.

The Clippers might be thinking that they need to do something to convince Paul to stay......

Maybe they think they can play a small frontcourt with Griffin and Millsap? Or a biggish lineup with Griffin/Millsap/Odom? I don't really understand this move for them...... I don't think it will happen.......
