The Jazz plan on tanking for Jabari Parker.
Mark my words.
Its the reason they didn't do a deadline deal to improve for next season. Its the reason why they are going to let Millsap and Jefferson walk next season.
Its the reason the "Jazz are willing to take a step back for a high 2014 draft pick". As the article states.
Having Jabari Parker skills and him being Mormon will fill up the ESA.

I was thinking the same thing or they want a really good PG. That being said out of the Mormons J's (Jabari or Jimmer), I would take Jabari any day.

It wasn't funny when you said it on the general board and it isn't funny now. If that is all they cared about, they would've drafted Jimmer.
Parker has no real ties to Utah and its fan base. If you ever go to a Utah Jazz home game, you note that there is a large number of the fans who are not Mormons. You will also note that whenever a Mormon does play, the crowd is ruthless in boo'ing them (it might also because they are ex-BYU guys).

I would say because they are ex-BYU players, and I do have to say drafting a high profile Mormon is something that the Mormon fans want, which is not a bad thing in some senses because if we had drafted Jimmer do you know how many Fredette jerseys you would see at a game? A freakin ton! But I think the Jazz viewed Jimmer as how he is playing now instead out of college he was just overhyped coming out of college; now he would probably have been a 2nd round pick.

I don't doubt that Randy Rigby has wet dreams over drafting Jabari Parker but I think Dennis Lindsey and [future Jazz coach here] would have nightmares about dealing with all the fan expectations and distractions surrounding the Mormon basketball Jesus.

The real decision the Jazz FO is making is between Continuity, Cap Flexibility, and Cash Considerations.

eh what would really impress me would be the Jazz FO scheming to move up in THIS draft. That would really show some balls. Because I think a lot of teams are going to be sellers and a lot of teams don't trust their ability to make the right selections this year.
Scheme to snatch up both Smart and Oladipo or Smart & Porter.

What will the Jazz do when Jabari goes on a mission for two years?

That probably won't happen if he wants to go to Duke, they are not BYU, they won't wait two years.

Just imagine the reaction when they draft Wiggins instead ...

Somewhere around here I said that based off everything the Jazz have set up this season the only logical plan is to bring in all young guys next year and have some vets for bench. AKA dropping any starter, and hopefully doing what Minnesota did, have a respectable club but not be medioacre...I mean get us a new Stockton, and have him run this group we have....mix in our draft picks, and the cap space we can use to take in any player who we can just bench etc. etc.

Taking a step back doesn't always mean in the standings...even if we give the reigns to the young group, I think they can manage better off than the Paul, Big Al and Corbin Show.....

I'm hoping the FO is thinking this way... A bunch of teams are going to be tanking for that 2014 draft, which means there are going to be multiple sellers in this years draft like you said. We may be able to get some good prospects at a cheaper price than usual. Which also means that it's risky business tanking for the 2014 draft when half the teams in the league will be doing it as well.
Imagine using our two picks, and one of are young wings (Hayward, Burks) to get one of those two scenarios that you laid out. Either of those would be solid cores.
Kanter

Porter
Hayward or Burks
Smart

if you want to tank well enough next year you better send the guys out in blinfolds because I have a feeling some teams are going to pull out all the stops... right until the future superstar underperforms or blows out his knee in college. Tanking is stupid.

This will be unpopular on here but send Kanter & Marvin to Golden State for H Barnes, Biedrins, & the rights to Kuzmic. Then send the rights to Kuzmic for the rights to Lorbek (Spurs). Buy-out and Sign Lorbek & Tomic who are current teammates.

Basically you're trading Kanter for Lorbek + Barnes.
I'd take Kanter's ceiling over Barnes' ceiling (I think most would). So this comes down to getting Lorbek?
Tell me why exactly we want a 29-year old Serbian who averages 10 points and 3 rebounds a game in Europe.

Barnes has a pretty nice ceiling & I could see him sliding to the two at some point. 6'8 wing that plays both ways, potential to be a nice closer, and I absolutely love his work ethic. So that's my sell job there.
By acquiring the rights to Lorbek it makes it even more comfortable for Tomic to come over. So I'd say it comes down to appealing to Tomic as well as getting Lorbek... as well as possible getting a closer. It certainly makes your team more balanced. I thought Jazz fans liked high IQ guys. That's the definition of Lorbek.
DraftExpress: Erazem Lorbek has been one of the best players in the Euroleague. Looks like a clear-cut NBA rotation big man. Super skilled inside & out.
2012-02-18 12:23:32 DraftExpress: Erazem Lorbek starting to heat up now. Spurs are out here in full force and are hot on his trail supposedly trying to get him for 2012-13.
2012-02-18 12:18:42
I see it as adding a versatile young wing with the right attitude who won't leave Utah for a bigger market plus adding Tomic & Lorbek... for Kanter. Kuzmic satisfies the Spurs in the deal. Young big man who could someday play in the league.

Re: The Jazz plan on tanking for Jabari Parker.
Im sure they wouldnt mind him but its because as a whole the 2014 draft could be loaded and has Wiggins whos as good a prospect as theyres been in years..
So if youre gonna go young next year is the year to do it because having a high pick could turn around the fortunes of a franchise
If the Jazz dotn get a high pick and do well it means the young players came along and gelled very fast.. if not they could get a high pick in a loaded draft so its a win win either way really
