A Request About Using Stats, For The Benefit Of The Forum

i just noticed that during our discussions, we frequently come up with various stats to support our arguments, or to disprove others. however, most of the times whoever is posting those numbers is doing just that, and nothing more. it would be very helpful for the discussions if whenever someone is including any piece of data or information (doesn't have to be numbers. could be a rumor or a news piece), that a link to that source will be added as well. obviously, i'm not talking about cases like including a link to an article in order to start the discussion, like the lowe article.

you already spent an hour finding this data and forming a long post around it, spend another 5 seconds to include a link to it and spare the time for others. just my opinion.

I Agree. I've noticed that fewer than 10% of posts that use stats provide sources for their information.

I would like some actual stats on this, I don't know where this 10% comes from..there is ten of us, and I don't use much stats, but I know no one period has links unless asked for them.

i always figured if you didn't believe then you could just google it(thats what I do).

Most data I use comes from basketball-reference.com ; there is some that doesn't though. I guess this might help. Anytime I reference what I consider to be an 'obscure' stat, though, I mention the source--though I do not provide a link.

The reason for this is that all this info is readily available. In almost all cases, if I want to check someone's facts, it takes me 10 seconds to get to the webpage that I need to find to do so. It would help, though, and wouldn't be too much trouble.
