Jazz sign Jerel McNeal

I actually wanted us to draft him, so I think this is a good signing. He is about as pure a shooter as you will ever see. Will he stick? Considering that he couldn't even make the Raptors roster, probably not.

Possible Strategy:

1. Let all the FAs walk
2. Sign scrubs from the connections pool (old 10 day contract guys, summer league, d league)
3. Play Favors, Kanter, Burks, Hayward, Evans 40 minutes a night
4. Tank to get a top 3 pick
In '03-'04, Jerry Sloan coached the ESPN predicted "worst team of all time" to 42-40.

they might just be signing him to see how he looks in practice, maybe give him a better look then they gave him before. who knows.

Even if they don't play, it gives our staff a chance to have them come practice with the team and suit up on the bench.

I mean would you just sign someone you never met??

I would like to have the 15th player, even if we don't play them and even if were paying them. I liked Travis Leslie, but I think this new guy might work out better, I mean were looking at another month of play with a possible first round.

even if the jazz keep him for the remainder of the season and make the playoffs, they can't play him in the playoffs due to NBA rules and regulations.

The real decision the Jazz FO is making is between Continuity, Cap Flexibility, and Cash Considerations.

Sure they can.

The deadline you're thinking of only applies to players who were waived.

I like the fact that they are looking. It it indicates to me that they are looking for a summer league guard who could be the 3rd stringer next year. I hope that they use the last 10 days on another player. They could compare the three D-leaguers to the guards that they bring in for the draft to see how they stack up.

Think of these 10-day contracts like flying someone in for a job interview. It's a relatively minor expense so that the Jazz coaching staff and FO can get a close up look at someone they've scouted.
