Obviously we are all watching the young guys really closely, and their ability to become difference makers long term is really the only hope this franchise has at the present time. So call it a small sample size, but here are Derrick Favors' numbers over the last 5 games:
MPG 25.8
FG 60.5%
FT 63.6%
FTR .512
TS 62.6%
PTS 13.2
REB 9.8
AST 1.6
STL 1.2
BLK 1.0
Adjust per 36 they are:
FG 60.5%
FT 63.6%
FTR .512
TS 62.6%
PTS 18.4
REB 13.7
AST 2.2
STL 1.7
BLK 1.4
This level of play over a full season and with starters minutes would probably make him an All Star shoe in.
Of course he will have a course correction of some sort, but we're all waiting for him to 'break out' and this could be an early sign. He hasn't gotten a particularly large increase in minutes or anything, either, or a change in roles. So this is just pure increase in performance.

Interesting.
He need a good pg who can pass him the ball.
He makes Al and Paul better when he plays alongside them.

That's why some of us have been saying all along that Favors needs to play more minutes.......

Well, while I don't disagree with that, if he was a bit better of an offensive player it would be harder to keep him off the floor. If he plays like this, even Corbin can't keep him on the bench.
....I think. :/

A good point guard would do a lot for him. Someone that creates at least his first few buckets and gets him going. With his already great defense and solid rebounding ( I think he needs to polish this part of his game up) all he needs is someone to help his raw offensive game and minutes.

Is that what point guards are supposed to do? It's been so long...

I don't get where your getting at. Favors had a stretch like this in mid march last year and young chandler had stretches like this and better.
Favors is still destined to be tyson chandler 2.0 and a late season stretch won't change that. He's doomed offensively but could potentially be a defensive anchor if he bulks up more.

I think its obvious that Favors and Kanter, who are top 3 lottery picks and will become top nba players....
Given a full roster and a PG, we will be in business and Favors will become the next Eaton, we still just need a Stockton, cause Kanter can become the next Malone.
I like this group:
Stockton - Foye - Hayward - Kanter - Favors
Then Burk can become the 6th man Ginobli Style, cause Foye has just become the best 3pt shooter ever. Or either way around, Burks and Foye will man the 2.
With a bench like:
Burks - Carroll - Marvin - Evans - GSW Pick

the guy is 21. there are plenty players in this draft who are 21 and will be 21-22 year old rookies. favors already has 3 years of experience in the league. i wouldn't dare dooming a 21 year old player's offensive game, especially when we are talking of a big men (there are exceptions obviously, like biyombo and others). you don't give up on such a big part of a player's game so early - that just perpetuates what you already thought will happen and just lower his ceiling. give him at least a season or two of significant PT before saying that.

He looks like he's got the tools to be a good offensive player by my eye. Nice touch, good coordination.
He'll come around.
Be nice if we had a PG to run PnR with him while he's learning tho.

He's shooting less than 30% from the field on shots that aren't at the rim, I don't think he really has touch.
I don't think he's going to be a very good offensive player, but I don't think he needs to be either so ehh.

For comparison's sake:
From 3-9 feet:
Millsap 39.2%
Jefferson 44.2% (3.4 attempts/game)
Favors 25.7% (1.1 attempts/game)
Tyson Chandler 48.3% (0.5 attempts/game)
From 10-15 feet:
Millsap 48.7% (1.1 attempts/game)
Jefferson 37% (2.0 attempts/game)
Favors 29% (0.5 attempts/game)
Tyson Chandler 66.7% (0.1 attempts/game)
From 16-23 feet:
Millsap 39% (3.0 attempts/game)
Jefferson 41% (5.8 attempts/game)
Favors 26% (1.4 attempts/game)
Tyson Chandler 21% (0.2 attempts/game)

I think he has the ability to improve. His touch looks good to me, when he misses it's usually not by much, and when he's either relaxed or has to shoot he seems a little better than when he decides he's open enough to shoot.
He just needs to get out of his head a bit, and I think that'll come with time.

Favors has terrible shooting form. Just horrible. I'm sorry, but his shot is so flat that it will never be reliable unless he completely changes his shooting mechanics. That would probably mess with his head more than anything. It should have been worked on when he was 12 instead of 21. People might as well give up on the hope that Derrick Favors will ever be more than an excellent defensive player who gets most of his points via dunks and layups.
The Jazz are going to need shot makers in a bad, bad way if Jefferson and Millsap both leave.

Kanter has a good mid range shot. Favors does not. Favors is good on defense. Favors can get dunks, but should not be expected to be a shooter, at least not right now.

Age doesn't matter ... he shouldve shown some type of resemblance of a potentially consistent jump shot, post move or something and so far nothing. He's not dwight, he's gonna have to get some real skill to be a respectable scorer. Favors' shooting form and touch are both TERRIBLE!!!. His shooting numbers are Terrible!!!. I can't think of anyone in NBA history that offense was this TERRIBLE!!!! during their third season and they became a respectable scorer no matter the age. I have seen very little improvement in his shooting mechanics or his shooting numbers in 3 years, why would he all of sudden make great improvement now?
Sorry to say it but when your doomed .... your doomed and nothing can save you. He was destined to be Tyson Chandler 2.0 and now the deal is sealed, thats his future.

Reapaman, you know damn well it takes at least five years before a big man is even able to hold onto the ball on the offensive end.
