Giannis Adetokunbo is very athletic and mobile for a 6"9" guy. It is my opinion he has about a 50% chance of being a good NBA player.

1. He is young and clearly does not have the skills to contribute to an NBA next year. He would get destroyed.
2. He is an elite physical talent, sort of like Amare Stoudamire and maybe Otto Porter

1. If Giannis goes to a major college basketball program like Kentucky, Kansas or Duke.....for 2-3 years.....when would he get drafted? Let's assume that he already played 3 years and you have to guess how good he would be. If he was in the 2013 NBA draft......when would you draft him?

2. How do you value using a pick this year, and not receiving the benefits for 3 years?

3. When is he going to get drafted this year.

My opinion- If he played in college for 3 years I would expect his game to develop and would take Giannis 7th in this draft.

I like how we drafted Kirilinko and let him stay in Russia for a few years, and let him develop. Did we pick him #19? Anyways, we bought him at a discount and it was a brilliant move. Since we have 2 picks I easily use a #16 on him.

Ainge went to scout him. I bet the Celtics easily take the risk and draft him. I predict Giannis will get picked in the #12 to 14 range, especially if he agrees to play for 2 years before joining his NBA team.

Kirilenko was picked 24th. I don't know anything about this guy other than he is getting a lot of hype.

if he had already played 3 years in college and still be at the same level he is now, then what is the difference? if anything, he'd be drafted lower. either way, he is going to be drafted in the 2013 draft, so he would be drafted at the same range as he's going to be drafted this year.


also, i don't think he's such a freak athlete or an elite physical talent. he is a tall 6'10 lanky guy who can dribble awkwardly and the ball reaches his shoulders when he does that. he seem to have nice lateral quickness, but i think that all the videos out there are very misleading. he is not going to be able to do those things in the NBA. his game at the NBA will have to be a lot different, which will negate many of the attributes that make people high on him.

Well I can tell you if Giannis was playing at a high level in Europe he wouldn't be drafted at all... because he wouldn't be playing much. And he just signed with a ACB team with an NBA out... probably just took the biggest deal a team would throw at him. I hope they play him in the LEB gold rather than sit him. I think he has to play. He probably would have been better off signing in some other league where he'd get more burn.

And that's why I think he should be brought over this summer. He needs to learn the NBA game and the team that takes him needs to see what he can do as well. This guy is the perfect D-League project for the right team.

It is entertaining how many flaws Montoya can point out in this young project and yet he misses the physical limitations of his pet NBA prospect when you factor in the talent and athleticism of a lot of NBA guards.

Giannis is an 18 year old project. He is not a future PG. He is a future wing who has serious defensive potential. If he can be a stopper, make open jumpers, and finish at the rim... that would be pretty sweet.

But keep in mind we are talking about a project here who from what I can tell is not playing in the Nike Hoops Summit. He's just gonna keep doing his thing in the 2nd division... show up in the USA and give some freak measurements... and get himself drafted in the 1st round (quite possibly). That's his plan.

i'm not missing anything. i already stated that i think wolters is a perfect fit for the jazz. does he have athleticism concerns and limitations? probably. but he CAN'T be any worse than mo and foye on defense, and probably watson and tinsley at this point. for the jazz, he brings more to the table than he takes away - that's my point. he won't be any worse defensively than mo, but he'll run the team waaaay better. he won't be any worse defensively than tinsley or watson, but he'll knock down shots when he's open all the way behind the 3pt line. he won't be any worse defensively than mo, watson or tinsley, but he won't turn the ball over like it is covered in oil, or force his offense on the game like mo, but will get his offense within the game. he'll get everyone involved unlike mo and watson, and keep the offense flowing. what more can you ask for?

as it concerns to giannis, his physical limitations are different than wolters'. while wolters' athletic deficiencies may cost him in his draft position, they will not make him an ineffective player since his game is very well rounded. with the right team, wolters can have an impact.

giannis on the other hand, is getting hyped as a 6'10 PG (sheridanhoops are losing credibility by the day), or as a durant 2.0, or as a pippen, or as a batum. however, the skills he posses combined with his hight, will not make him successful in the NBA if his game stays the same. people look at his videos where he is putting the ball on the floor and dribbles and makes a basket. he will not be able to do that in the NBA. he will not be able to get to the rim against NBA SFs, and PFs will punish him physically. he is able to do that at the 2nd division of a semi professional team (Filathlitikos) against significantly inferior talent, especially athletically. the difference between him and wolters is that wolters was very successful without being a standout athletically but because of he is highly skilled. i'm high on wolters because i think his skills will translate to the NBA level. i think most of giannis' skills that cause him all this hype - won't.

he will never have the ball skills or shooting of durant. he will never be a great defender like pippen who can guard 4 (and sometimes all 5) positions. he will never be a PG (1.9 assists and 1.6 TOs i think) i think we can all agree. look at batum - even he doesn't really create much offense off the dribble. giannis won't either. also his shooting form is much inferior to batum's too. he doesn't seem to have a great vertical either - his jumps look really flat.

so right now, he gets all this hype because so many people are seeing so many things he does, and think he'll be able to do them in the NBA, which is why his stock is rising. but if you take away all the things he's doing now which he will not be able to do in the NBA, he is much less appealing. can he be a decent NBA player? yes, i think has a chance to, eventually. but it does not justify the hype he is getting. his game in the NBA will be much more limited than what we all see now in videos, which will make him less attractive. that's why i don't like all this hype.

if he'll be able to do that, then he's a decent NBA player. i see a lot of guys in this draft that can be decent, useful NBA players - but they don't get hyped like this guy, which is exactly my point. should they be hyped? well, no - because being a decent NBA player is all well and good, but not all that exciting and sexy. that's almost the standard when you look at what you want to get out of the draft outside the lottery.

Wilson Chandler... there you go. Anybody who is hyping this guy beyond a late 1st round pick or 2nd round pick is outta line... but who is saying he's lotto? Pretty sure just about everyone is saying late 1st or 2nd rounder.

Summer League, pre-season, and a year of d-league, plus a good lifting program... and you could have a future Wilson Chander down the line... now that he is healthy & Gallo is out... Chandler is a real key piece for the Nuggets. I wouldn't call him a defensive stopper exactly but overall that's a decent comparison of what Giannis could be. If he's not a worker he could flame out and be back in Europe in 2 years. So high risk, high reward. I don't know his work ethic at all.

exactly my point. he's over hyped - there's a whole lot of people outta line out there. because i see plenty of durant 2.0, pippen, and future star comparisons and hopes for him. including in this forum. not by you - you're one of the sane ones, but the hype is too much. and by now he's pretty close to being a lottery pick in mocks as well. i totally agree with what you're saying.

I haven't read anything suggesting he's a future super star other than maybe a few hacks trying to drum up internet traffic. I think DX has been saying a top ceiling of Batum. And most boards are suggesting he's 20 to 35 in this draft.

I've read all the Danny Ainge crap, but I also know how Ainge operates. This could all be a smoke screen on his part. I can see him laughing right now in his office having suggested Giannis is a future super start PG. While on the phone BSing about Giannis he probably has Eurocup footage of Karasev playing in the background.

This hype is a Danny Ainge creation & it is best not to trust him.

i'm less aiming the hype to ainge and sheridanhoops (who were late to the party anyway) and more to posters around the internet on forums like this and others. i can't remember who, but even in this forum someone said giannis could become durant 2.0 . that's too much and over the top. that's what i'm talking about. i see too much of this kind of stuff about this guy in basketball forums and he is getting too much attention when we realistically consider the type of player he is likely to become.

oh that kinda crap happens all the time with every ball is life 1 minute highlight dunk athon tape. The reason you see boards moving up Giannis is because Danny just ran his mouth. I'm suggesting there is a reason for it. If Danmy really liked this kid he'd temper expectations a lot more.

Kirilenko was drafted 14 years ago. I think their is a much greater focus now scouting international prospects. Idk if its this kid, but the model of "draft young athletic freaks with few skills" has been pretty promising in terms of getting value out of mid-to-late first round picks. Athleticism is probably overvalued in the top 5, but where we'll be drafting, we have to take flyers on someone with elite defensive potential, or we'll never have a chance of being the best team in the league.

there is a huge difference between AK and Giannis. for one, Giannis is playing in a semi professional team in the 2nd division in Greece. at about his age, AK was one of the best players in europe (if not the best) and led his team - CSKA Moscow, which is a European powerhouse - to the Russian Superleague championship and EuroLeague semi finals. his skills translated to the NBA too. it may not be the case for Giannis.
