In Foye's locker clean-out interview he made it sound like he wants to be back and the Jazz want him back, so I guess we can look forward to another year of Ty Corbin playing Foye ahead of Hayward and Burks.

What stuck out to me was him mentioning that when he and Kevin talked they were going to make it a 3-year deal, but the Raja Bell situation prevented it. Can anyone think of a reason that Raja Bell's contract situation would've prevented the Jazz from offering Randy a 3-year deal?

I'll take a wild guess and say had he signed a 3 year deal then it wouldve been for more than 2.5 mil a year and the more we offer him than the less we have to add players throughout the season. We currently ended at 3 mil below the cap but had he got 2-3 mil more on his first year deal then we would be dangerously close to the luxery tax.

I'd love to see Randy Foye back..... Corbin needs to go though........

If it weren't for Corbin I wouldn't mind Randy back on a reasonable contract.

I'll cheer for Randy Foye. Beyond being a nice three point threat, he's an awesome human being and fits the Utah Jazz culture perfectly. Playing time is on the coach. It's the player's job to do his absolute best to try to earn time. I would not want a player on the team that did not try to earn starter's minutes.

Because he had decided he wanted to sign with the Jazz but wasn't gonna sign a long term contract unless it was for a certain amount (lets say 4 mil a year). So he just signed a one year deal for whatever the Jazz felt they could offer for this year in order for the team to keep their flexibility throughtout the season and he would seek the money he wanted along with a long term contract in the off-season.

I guess I can see that; take a cheap one-year deal and try to prove you're worth more per season so you can get a more lucrative long-term deal the next year.

Having said that, would anyone here pay Randy Foye $4M/year on a 3-4 year deal?

that's pretty much his market value imho. a 3M-4M a year player.

i'd rather have sonny weems on a peanuts deal with a team option... or go with a 2nd rounder like Will Clyburn and give him a chance for peanuts... rather than adding salary for years to come in Foye. if I'm right I've got a nice asset. if i'm wrong the 2014 draft looks nice.

I hear ya.

But you know what would be worse than having Randy Foye on a 3 year/$13M deal? Having the league find out that you pulled a Joe Smith and then losing your draft picks for a couple of years.

Serious though, Lindsey probably just said "you play well and we will talk in the off-season since we will have plenty of cap room". The 3 year deal is something they probably discussed orginally but was never set in stone. As inigo eluded to, 3 -4 mil a year is the going rate for a guy like foye and even Korver got 5 mil a year from the bulls not to long ago. There are much better and cheaper options but whatever.

It would've been KOC, not Lindsey.

The man has a Jazz record, and when he is on he is a pleasure to have him in the team. So, the only thing we need is to bench him when he is off.

If I knew Foye was going to be coming off the bench and playing no more than 15-20 minutes on average, I wouldn't have a problem with bringing him back for a reasonable price. His ability to space the floor and provide occasional three point binges would be valuable in that role and his shortcomings wouldn't be so damning. Unfortunately, Ty would probably start him and play him close to 30 minutes again, which is something I most definitely do not want.

That pretty much sums it up.

Foye is a decent backup, but if he is getting starters minutes you are not a truly competitive team. We need to fill our starter spots first and then look at the reserves.
