Article doesn't say anything about what may have been offered, so how do we know we turned down a good deal?

Have to agree nothing said who was offered by the Celtics, I would say it was some scrubs or wanted picks on top of Mills or Big Al but who knows.

I'm assuming they didn't offer much for expiring contracts.

I so remember wanting the jazz to go after rondo at the trade deadline and getting the buzz kill from Ainge. It was reported that he clearly said they would not trade Rondo, no matter what.
So he wasn't offered and any other combination of players from the celtics would be horrible for the jazz

It is nice to hear the jazz went after it.... Rondo though

because the celtics have no assets besides rondo, who has a somewhat difficult personality and a torn ACL, and we don't even know if he was offered...

David Locke's analysis of what possibilities could have made up the trade discussion:

If this report is true the salaries would have had to match since the Celtics were already touching on the luxury tax ($400,000 under) it is fair to assume they didn't want to take on big money.

For Jefferson (15 mil) or Millsap (8.6) the Jazz would have had to bring back about the same amount of salary.

The deal would have had to have been some combination of the following salaries

Jeff Green at 8.3 million and 3 years and 27 million left after last season.
Jason Terry at 5 million with 2 years and 11 million left after last season.
Courtney Lee at 5 million with 3 years and 16 million left as of right now.
Brandon Bass at 6 million and 2 years and 13 left as of right now.

Boston couldn't afford to bring back more than it sold out because of the luxury tax so Jefferson llikely had to be Green and Bass.

Millsap had to be Bass and Terry or Lee or Jeff Green straight up

Bass makes some sense and could be a sign and trade deal for Millsap or Jefferson in the off-season but at the trade deadline it would have put Boston into the luxury tax.

This is exactly what Dennis Lindsey was talking about when he said he wasn't willing to make deals that would have ruined the Jazz flexibility.

If the Jazz had moved Jefferson to the C's at the deadline yes it would have opened up time for Favors and Kanter but it would have stuck the Jazz with at least 2 long term contracts that would have ruined the franchise flexibility.

This is the best example of what the Jazz wanted to avoid I have seen yet.
