Rumored trade out of Sacramento

I will preface this by saying I am an Aggie alum and we already know we are the little brother to both schools. We just sit back and laugh at the two bigger schools' fans who trash each other at every chance. :D

1280 is reporting that there is a rumored offer of Jimmer for the #21 pick. It's possible this is part of a bigger deal to move up to #7. Both Jazz picks for the #7 and the Jazz take the Jimmer circus.

What do you say? I would do it because it likely gets the Jazz McCollum or Zeller, Jimmer is an expiring contract, and because I'd like to see the Ute fans' heads explode. I would not do it because I don't think it would be fair to Fredette to get booed every time he sets foot on the court. I think Jimmer is a pretty great dude, even if his legion of fans is nuts. I feel sad for him for the abuse he takes from half the ESA every time he touches the ball.

PS- Chad Ford and Marc Stein are also reporting the rumor over on ESPN.

Why wouldn't you do? The only people that wouldn't want to do it are serious BYU haters.

I'd do #14 and #21 for #7, adding Jimmer is just extra. You would definitely have a shot at one of the better pg's. Jimmer can add some scoring with the second unit. If Jimmer doesn't pan out, he has helped you tank and get a better draft pick in next year's deep draft.

I would be hesitant if it was just #21 for Fredette. And not anything to do with his talent, just the circus that would come with it. Although, I do believe the Fredette hype in Utah has died down considerably in the last couple of years. That is why I would be down for 14 and 21 for 7 and Fredette. With someone like CJ McCollum there, there would be no question who the starter would be. BYU fans would have no excuse to bitch about Jimmer's playing time. We would instantly become a much deadlier outside shooting team with McCollum and Fredette.

I wouldn't do it. I would rather take my chances on draft choices.

I wouldn't do it. At 21 there's a chance, albeit a small one, of landing a rotation player. With Jimmer you know he's not an NBA rotation player.

I completely agree with you. I think Jimmer would just be extra. #14 and #21 for #7 i'd take for sure, and try and get a good Point Guard. However, i'm not sure I would want us to do #21 for Jimmer.

The word out is that the Jazz are intrigue with the various PG's of the draft but don't believe any of them can come in immediately and be a starter but more likely become a rotational player. I think the Jazz are going to select best player available, likely a big Gobert, Bebe, or Plumlee. And if any of the following PG's Larkin, Canaan, or Schroeder, are still available at #21 then you'll see one of them selected to become the backup PG. A lot of what i'm hearing is that the Jazz are likely to target their starting PG in free agency perhaps Luke Ridnour, Jack, or Calderon.

I wouldn't give up the 14th pick. This Draft is likely the best chance the Jazz have of getting multiple picks at low face value. With 7 and 14 I would try to go for both MCW and McCullom. They should be aggressive and take control of this Draft. Giving up the 14th is a wasted opportunity, and would drag on the rebuild even longer. Unless they're going for another pick on a side deal, I'd do all I can to keep 14 and grab 7. The 21, 46, Evens, take on salary... Even Burks, though I'd hesitate to include him unless the pot sweetens. The 14th itself may not grab you MCW/McCullom, but if you can trade it to up a couple spots it will. Anyway, just my thoughts.

I hope not. I don't like any of the Free Agents in this draft when it comes to being our future point guard. And most likely if we sign one of these guys it will be a long term deal which would make us lose flexibility in 2014. I hope we trade up and try and get a young point guard.

...and to further that point, Jimmer is an expiring contract this year. Picking up guys at the end of their deals this year makes good sense for the Jazz. 2014 looms large.

To move up yes, but straight across? No reason to trade likely bust for actual bust.

Not interested. Personally I love this draft and see starting caliber players at #14 and #21. Plus some of the guys at that spot such as Canaan and Franklin will be just as good if not better than some of the options at the top (although getting porter or mabey Len/Muhammad would be great imo). Also Jimmer's contract isn't worth a bag of 10 year old wonder bread let alone being an incentive for us to do anything with the Kings.

I want to load up now anyway because 2014 draft is highly overrated outside of Wiggins, Parker and mabey a couple others. Most of the prospects are not interesting and not as good as most of the prospects in this draft. 2014 Free agency is also overrated since most of the high profile players likely won't leave their situation or come here for that matter.

Pros:
-Shooter
-Expiring contract (small)
-Second chance upside
-Half the fan base

Cons:
-Miss a rookie contract
-Miss the draft pick potential upside
-Half the fan base

I'm not a fan of this draft, so I would like it. And If we move up to 7 with it, I think it's a great move, but that's more because of the move up.

Freddette could probably be a 3rd string point guard, maybe a 2nd string depending on who we draft or bring back (Tinsley, Watson, hopefully not Williams). The Kings were a bad start. We just got burned on giving Marvin Williams a second chance, but I don't like this draft, so I'm in.

If you truly believe these players are busts, why not pay for a bust for one year instead of three? Plus, Jimmer's merchandise sales and the increased ticket revenue and television numbers he'd bring would more than pay for his contract. From a business standpoint, I think this move makes excellent sense.

Might as well just draft Wolters at #21, though, if you're looking for a shooter and a backup PG who is too slow to defend anyone.

...and Reapaman, stay off the draft crack. I can see you've overdosed a little bit.

(Did he just say the 2013 draft is going to be better than 2014? )

I want to make sure that I understand properly...

You are basically disagreeing with every expert, analyst, and fan out there about the strength of this years draft and next years?

I would take this deal. Moving up we could get a much better player. I would probably take a big and try to get a PG in a trade or FA.

I want a PG.

If the trade is #14 and #21 for #7....I vote to trade up.

If we have to take on Jimmer and his small salary for a year to make that deal.

At #7 we can get our PG.

http://nbadraft.net/2013mock_draft

McCollum could be very good, or do we take Otto Porter?

I would say if we can get Schroeder at 21 then no. If not, then yes.

I wouldn't mind seeing Jimmer get another chance with another team and don't mind him as a 3rd stringer on the team. He did show some outside shooting potential, which would give a nice scoring lift off the bench, if you can compensate for his non-defense elsewhere. Would you really rather have Watson?

Ugh Jimmer, I would trade our 2nd round pick for him. I just think he's meant to play in Europe like Jaycee Carroll. In all realities if Jimmer didn't have so much hype in his draft year he would have been a late first/early second, I like the guy as a person but he's not a PG and not even a combo guard. I think the Jazz might like the BYU connection but than what happen's when people are screaming for Jimmer to play high minutes and Corbin doesn't play him that much? There are a lot of variables in this but if we did 14 and 21 for 7 and had a shot at MCW or Burke and Jimmer was included, I would do it.
