GTS Contest and rules, picks on this link

Post#1 » by Jazz Dog » Mon Jan 9, 2017 10:05 pm

Contest Starts 1/10/17 with Cleveland at Utah Game; Please Join In Any Time!

GTS is a fun way to help keep involved in the Utah Jazz season. Simply answer who you think will win & by how many points (i.e. Jazz by 20). Then answer the bonus question for each game. A thread will be started for each game of the Jazz season. This is where you record your answers.

Points given for correct team picked + ....

Exact spread guessed = 10 points
1-3 off on score = 5 points
4-7 off on score = 3 points
More than 8 off on score = 1 point

-2 picking wrong winner

3 points for bonus question

Rules:
1. Get your pick in prior to tip off. No post edits after tip off.
2. See rule 1

You should start the game from 0 for this board. Otherwise there will be very little incentive for most resident members to join in when starting 130+ pts behind first place.

Yes, we will probably be setting one of the upcoming games, Cleveland, for a RealGM fresh start. The more players the merrier! There is an ongoing sticky thread at the top for discussion on how to manage the contest.

Are we supposed to guess the score, or the margin of victory? Those are two different things. I can say the Jazz will win by 10, and it's different than saying the Jazz will win 80-70 or 110-100.

Guess the score is misleading. Just need to guess the margin of victory.

Better clear that up in the rules:

Thanks Jazz Dog! Here is are a couple of other small suggestions to take or leave: Move the old pre Real GM game results, making clear it is pre Real GM results, to a one time separate post in this thread, the old forum or both, because the old results tend to clutter up the initial rules post imo. In addition, a potential player might glance only at the first post only and assume that they are too late to play, without reading the following posts.

Could also note that "Contest Starts 1/10/17 with Cleveland at Utah Game; Please Join In Any Time!" Just a couple of suggestions that you can take or leave. Thanks for tabulating results!!!

I just removed the old stats, don't want to clutter up this one with old information. Those from the old forum have already seen the results. I liked your verbiage above so I copied that over as well.

It was good seeing who participated in the first game. I definitely think more will come and do it, bragging rights are good to have.

Everyone got 1 point for picking the Jazz but no one was within 14 points of the final spread. Quite a few choose D to gain 3 extra points.

Jazz had three players with 3 or more assists. A couple were able to move up in the standings by getting the bonus question right.

Total is after the Orlando game.

Hey Jazz PR guy who reads realGM. You should give the winner of our game two freeplayoff tickets to a game. Nothing special, some nose bleed seats. Or at least a ball signed by the players.

Also, you should probably give me whatever the winner gets for having such a great idea.

Thanks Jazz PR guy who reads this.

Jazz@Mavs:
Jazz by 9, yes, they will outscore the Mavs' bench.

Jazz vs. Pacers:
Jazz by 5, Hill>Teague.
