Agreed. Exum has the skills to be elite defensively but he definitely wasn't last year. What killed him last year was how aggressive he was when getting into players. Hopefully this year he chills out a little bit and avoids all those horrible ticky tack fouls

He was always wrong footed for some reason. Hopefully it was just a symptom of being away from the game, but it was really bad at times.

I see Exum being 18/6/6 per 36.

If he gets 24 minutes means he probably has 12/4/4.

Jazz are still high on him, I don't expect that to happen.

Serious question: Why is Exum panting and looking like he is completely out of breath so often? Sometimes I wonder if there is something wrong with Exum that doesn't allow him to achieve the level of aerobic fitness that other young NBA guards achieve.

Exum is a stud. He's had a slow start to his career because he's been injured and stuck playing behind G.Hayward. Exum and Rubio will be one of the best backcourts in the league. They will play elite defense, cause lots of turnovers and be lethal in transition.

http://www.odetooden.com/home/2017/8/16/episode-38-bagley-and-lakers-jazz-spurs-summer-league-with-cole-zwicker

Ode to Oden podcast talking about Exum, Mitchell, Bradley and other Jazz players in SL. Jazz part starts 1:09:20. They were extremely impressed by Exum("completely dominated in stretches"), very high on Mitchell's defensive potential, not so much on his offensive creation, they are not sure about Bradley's future, etc. Very worth a listen.

Dante showed a confidence in his play ,he will be the breakout player the Jazz need this year.

Some Exum summer league highlights for a slow day:

Dante Exum records a double-double with 26 points and 10 assists as the Utah Jazz defeat the Philadelphia 76ers 100-94.

As long as the competition is full of 28 year old D-League hopefuls

Seriously tho, we need Exum to earn some of that draft hype. I hope he steps up!

Steve Luhm @sluhm

Lakers promise to never tamper again (unless Dante Exum has a huge season).

Exum's combination of length and speed means he's constantly a threat to shoot or drive. If he starts to show that he can shoot and finish plays, he'll put constant pressure on the defense and get minutes ahead of the likes of Sefalosha and Jerebko -- meaning Hood can shift to the 3, so Dante and Mitchell can get more minutes at the 1 and 2, respectively. The Jazz are going to need production from these guys, along with Hood, since they can create offense.

Exum has always just needed to get stronger, tighten his handle and shoot better. He can piece the rest of his game together. Once he's confident that he can do all the basics, I think he won't hesitate to make the reads and make the plays he's expected to make. He's just been too limited a player thusfar.

He's a mouth breather, but also he plays in bursts. It's like sprint-recover-sprint-recover. If he gets in better shape, he should be able to give a more even effort.

If he can become a good shooter and run guys into the ground like Jaycee Carroll did that would be awesome.

Andy Larsen

@andyblarsen

I think they won't get Exum, will get Hood. That they're starting this early on Hood (and that sides are optimistic) is a good sign.

Will the Jazz work out any extensions this year?

I think this is going to be the script ,I think Exum is going to totally shine this year and test RFA like Hayward did .

Why.....Why Not ?They played Mack and Neto in front of him last year ,traded for Rubio and drafted Mitchell who will be too short to play against NBA 2 guards.
Exum says he's a PG and looks like that's where he considers himself to be the best he can be.

I agree, what he gets offered in RFA may not be much though and who knows if the Jazz match. I see Snyder sitting him again a lot this year. There just seems to be no love there.
