Ranking the players on the team

Post#1 » by dr0welf » Sun Jan 14, 2018 3:23 am

I realize that more recent games usually affect rankings, but I'm curious who you guys think are the best players on the team.

1. Gobert
2. Spida
3. Favors
4. Rubio
5. Ingles
6. Thabo
7. Exum
8. Hood
9. Burks
10. Udoh
11. Jarebko
12. O'neal
13. Neto
14. J. Johnson
15. Bradley

Gobert is obviously our current cornerstone, so his injury has hampered what we want to do. Favors is an amazing player and if we didn't have Gobert we would be building around Favors and what he brings. I really wish the two of them would have learned how to play together.

I had the hardest time with J Johnson, because he is such a class act and great iso player. But this year I feel like he doesn't fit into the offense we are doing. He could be up above Exum if he was playing like the end of last year.

Wow, Burks at 12? Interesting. Why do you rank him so low?

What criteria are we going off of? It makes a big difference. Favors is easily a top 5 player on this team in terms of how good he is now, but I'd put him in the bottom 5 in terms of the long future of this team because I don't think there's a chance he's here beyond the next 40 games.

I think ranking the best player to the worst player is the best option. I will edit my original post to show this...

Same here. It's like Mitchell and Gobert at 1\2, and then nothing.

The real decision the Jazz FO is making is between Continuity, Cap Flexibility, and Cash Considerations.

Gobert, Mitchell, Ingles, Exum

That’s about the only ranking I care about because it might be the only players on the team in 3 years.

1- Mitchell
2-Favors, Thabo, Udoh
3-Everyone else has been utterly disappointing, borderline terrible. Or injured.

Ranking based on this seasons performance.

Hood and Rubio are definitely tough but they are still both in the top half of the team. Exum was tough because it's still all based off potential and hidden glimpses during minimum games. I think Johnson would have been ranked a lot higher after last years post season. This year he seems out of place.

Interesting conversation. Just food for thought BBall Reference ranks on Advanced Metrics for this season, (what have you done for me lately?):
1. Ingles
2. Mitchell
3. Rubio
4. Favors
5. Hood
6. Sefo
7. Burks
8. Udoh
9. Jerebko
10. Gobert
11. Johnson
12. O'Neale
13. Neto
14. Bradley

Drop Sefo off that list as of now and assume Rudy ascends to #1 or #2 and it doesn't seem super unrealistic. Player trajectories for the last 1/2 season, much less trades, and injuries will create a very different looking list but pretty sure Gobert, Mitchell and Ingles finish at the top, with Mitchell leading the team in ppg. And while biased, based on games Rudy has played so far I think it is clear Mitchell is the best player on the team.

Hold on a minute. I think that BB Ref list you produced above is merely ranking Jazz players by total minutes played, not by any kind of performance metric. Scroll down to the Advanced section below and click on MP for minutes played versus other column headings.

I find it interesting if you pull up the advanced and organize by PER the list goes
1. Gobert
2. Favors
3. Mitchell
4. Thabo
5. Burks
6. Udoh
7. Jerebko
8. Hood
9. Neto
10. O'neale
11. Rubio
12. Ingles
13. Bradley
14. Johnson

Favors is our #2 according to PER. Sucks we can't get him and Gobert working together. The surprising part is how far down Rubio and Ingles fall.

this subject is to wide open, do we talk about best in current season, best in previous one, with best potential etc. i Guess many put all of that to one bag. If You mean overall with biggest potential i agree with @Inigo that we have Spida and Gob and then not much to talk about :P With current season situation is different, as i would not put Gob even in top 5

Doh! My bad. It didn't seem unrealistic and I obviously was making a point based on "fake information"
