Who do you guys like for the Jazz's #14 Denver pick?

Post#1 » by MTJazzv3 » Wed May 16, 2018 2:26 pm

Once again, the Nuggs secure a late lottery pick for the Jazz.

Kidding aside, and barring discussed potential "gets" the Jazz may find in FA or in trade, what type of player should the Jazz target in the draft? Do the Jazz need a stretch 4 more than enhancing the wing scoring and defense? Let us assume that the player will not have a DM-style breakout but has potential as solid rotation player from 2019 on. I know its pure speculation, but any obvious sleepers in the draft that might be snagged late or do you think DL and staff will trade up for a specific player/piece? I suppose the picture is a bit fuzzy until the combine and workouts re-sort the 1st round pecking order but do they go "best player available" late in the first or target a specific need?

Someone who can shoot the 3, play defense, and has length, strength, and size. I don't even care what "position" he plays.

I’m not saying Miles Bridges will be a star, but if you asked me who could be a star at that range he stands out.

I don't think he or his brother drop past 12.

The problem is that I don't think this time we have much to offer in order to get to that pick. Maybe we can take on some bad money(Faried?)? I don't know...

Mikal and Miles would seem like the names of brothers, and they are a year apart, crazy.

I have no clue. I haven't scouted this year at all. But someone who is taller than 6'8" and is an athlete would be nice. Mostly I care about being able to defend the weak side and come back up Rudy when he gets pulled from the floor. I DO NOT want a big traditional C or PF. We can work with players on shooting. We need athleticism and speed.

Christmas in May, very cool. I don't know, Kevin Knox maybe. Sounds like he has some athleticism and some versatility. Hope we're smart enough to pick up Grayson Allen in a later round, that kid's a winner.

If there’s someone DL really likes, I wouldn’t mind rolling the dice and giving up a future protected pick.

He would have to wow you like Mitchell though.

Zhaire Smith would be a good pick for Denver at 14. They want an athletic, defensive-minded wing.

He'd be a nice pick for us too.

Frankly, the Clippers seem to be a better trade candidate this time. They own pick 12 and 13, may very well go on a fire-sale, a have players that could fit the Jazz, like Harris.

The real decision the Jazz FO is making is between Continuity, Cap Flexibility, and Cash Considerations.

I disagree. The Nuggets will have to go into the luxury tax to keep Jokic and Barton. If they are willing to move down and do a pick swap they can keep both. Two ideas:

1) Sefelosha/Jerebko/21 for Faried/14

2)
Utah trades: Jae Crowder, Thabo Sefelosha, Jonas Jerebko, Ekpe Udoh
Utah receives: Kenneth Faried, Jared Bayless, 14
Utah adds a lottery pick while keeping their own first. In this scenario I would hope that we'd get one of Zhaire Smith/Jontay Porter with the first pick, then add Anfernee Simmons with our second pick. Bayless and Faried expire at the end of the season.

Philadelphia trades: Jared Bayless, 26
Philadelphia receives: Thabo Sefelosha (waived)
Philadelphia gets rid of Bayless. Sefelosha is ung.

Denver trades: Kenneth Faried, 14
Denver receives: Jae Crowder, Jonas Jerebko (waived), Ekpe Udoh (waived), 26
Denver cuts Faried's salary in half at the cost of their lottery pick, but they add a useful small forward and a late first. Jerebko and Udoh are ung.

My list is Zhaire Smith, Jontay Porter, and Anfernee Simmons (in that order).

I don't believe Crowder will be included in any trade proposals. Our front office loves his toughness and his contract. With a full summer with the Jazz he'll be a main stay for us for many years. All trade offers need to focus on Burks, in my opinion.

I agree to an extent. But in the hierarchy of un-tradable on this team Jae is clearly fourth(maybe lower). Donny, Gobert, and Ingles are all much higher than him. It's arguable with O'Neale's contract he is more valuable as well.

As long as we can do business with Denver and not the Lakers we'll be fine.
