Here's interviews with the prospects from the workout today:
http://1280thezone.com/utah-jazz-pre-draft-workouts-june-4-2019/

Paschall sounds like a smart player. He's friends with Mitchell from the AAU days where they played on the same team.

Perrin sees him as a stretch 4 with maybe opportunity to play 3 down the road. Good shooter... good body to play 4. Has NBA range, but didn't shoot very well today. Needs to work on - handling the ball, passing better... better consistency hitting the shot with the extended 3p line.

Terence Davis: quick release, soft shot... nice strong compact body, good understanding how to play the game. good combine, good pre-draft process... hearing he's having good workouts elsewhere too... moving up draft boards.

There are still players we want to take a look at in a pre-draft workout.

Bazely better be one of them. Not sure his agent will be interested.

The real decision the Jazz FO is making is between Continuity, Cap Flexibility, and Cash Considerations.

Bazely has worked out for San Antonio, Orlando and Detroit. Those aren't exactly the glamor markets.

That's a good sign, then. The FO should be able to book a workout then, no excuses.

Does the frequency of draft workouts seem really low to anyone else? I feel like there are more draft possibilities than ever this year, but not as many workouts.

I think the fact that players' draft ranges are so broad and fuzzy is affecting workouts. In other years, it's been more clear where guys are going to go, so they'd know who to work out for. Hopefully there are another couple big group workouts like the one we had on Memorial Weekend. Rumors are that we're supposed to have Lu Dort and Bruno Fernando in at some point soon.

My conspiracy itch wants me to say that we already know what we're doing with the pick...but my understanding is that the most important thing in these workouts is actually the interviews. Every team has a living file on every player that includes the most information as possible. They don't seem to be looking for a lot of intel this year.

Maybe DLZ have been leaning towards trading the pick for a while, possibly for Conley?

Good to know, I wasn't sure he was working out anywhere other than his "pro day" staged by his agent. Samanic also worked out for San Antonio, and it would be great to have both of them in at the same time.

I've also wondered if they have been planning on trading the pick.

When you look at the list of players who have worked out for teams (e.g. https://hoopshype.com/2019/05/07/nba-pre-draft-workouts-prospects/ ) the Jazz have a pretty long list. However, I have read that the lottery players wait until June to begin their workouts, and with the draft being so flat this year, maybe the Jazz will get some projected end of lottery guys in before the draft.

Usually, the Jazz do their workouts starting with fringe players and 2nd-round players, then systematically work their way up to the first-round talent. The players may work the opposite way---they hold out and try to workout for teams drafting as high as possible, and then work their way down the draft order if they haven't been given a promise.

I think the Jazz will get guys in like THT, Keldon Johnson, Cam Johnson, maybe Kevin Porter Jr., etc., but those guys are trying to get a promise from a team drafting above us first.

Here's an interesting one... Samanic, Gafford, Wooten on the same day. Samanic is a sleeper pick at #23 if he shoots well.

Samanic has worked out for San Antonio and Milwaukee that I'm aware of.

Samanic vs Gafford is a good matchup to see if he can abuse an NBA level big prospect.

Yeah, or just survive. Gafford is an NBA athlete for sure. I'm guessing they'll look at his effort on defense, making him defend pick and roll, defend in the post and guard out on the floor.

I'm intrigued with how crafty a passer Samanic is. He has a few plays that are like Kirilenko. If Samanic really shoots well, and a couple other guys are gone, I could see the Jazz taking him.

Also, that big from France Poirier is pretty skilled. He was in the G-League this year.

Walt Perrin's comments on Samanic:
** Pretty good athlete/vertical athlete
** Has the ability to become a pretty good shooter
** Can put the ball on the floor out on the perimeter to create shots
** Good passer

He went up against Gafford and also switched onto guards out on the floor.

Samanic interview. At the very end, he mentioned how his coach was there for the mini camp. If his coach is here, the Jazz have probably talked to him personally about Samanic and gotten good intel on him.

Samanic has been considered one of the top 1 - 3 prospects of his age in Europe since he was 16 years old. If he can really put the ball down and create anything close to like Kirilenko did, he's going to be very appealing. He should be available at #23.
