If that number is true for Clarkson, I guess the big off season additions are healthy Bogey and Conley.

He might not get 20 but will you be shocked if he got like... 3/48?

Clarkson should not get more than his previous contract, which was about $12.5M per year. That's already on the higher side of what I'd be comfortable with. I hope we don't overpay.

The real decision the Jazz FO is making is between Continuity, Cap Flexibility, and Cash Considerations.

Yes, I would be...... Something like 3/40 I could see, but more than that, would just be an overpay......

If it's more than 12...we should just bring back AB instead. Maybe we should be doing that anyways.

.. we had 13M under the luxury tax before this one. So what do we need those extra 5M for if we were going to give Clarkson less than 12-13M? Two possibilities I see:
-We are going for someone else with the MLE and we are giving Clarkson about... 9-10M and the rest for the other guys... (possibly a big? or a wing?)
-we need this money to actually give Clarkson something more than that ~12M.

Not that it's my money, but God I hope the Jazz aren't going to be paying Clarkson $18 mil...... And it's not because I don't like him, he's been great for the Jazz, but just not at that price......

I think that $18M number includes some of the NG contracts. If we cut NWG and Tucker, that opens up about $3 M more in space (Tucker has some guaranteed). BabyJax has a good breakdown in the other thread.

Long time folks. Hope all is well.

I saw this on Bleacher Report from Dan Clayton..."Here's where the jazz are at... 106M committed to 7 guys. Niang is safe and they'll likely keep at least 2 of last year's rooks too, so let's say 111M for 10. 21M left under the tax, with the MLE, BAE, 2 TPEs & JC's Bird rights."

Assuming those numbers are still accurate...

Can we use all 21 million and then sign Clarkson and use his bird rights? And if so what are the ramifications if we do that on the MLE?

Example..

Could we bring Favors back on the full MLE of $9,755,000, use that 11.250,000 left over to acquire other role players, and then still sign Clarkson to 12 or 13 million a year? Or, if we go over the tax threshold does the MLE get reduced to the taxpayer MLE? Favors is not signing for 5 million a year, but he might sign for 9 million. And a combo of Gobert, Favors, and Udoka should be plenty of size to get the defense back to where it was two seasons ago. I think Udoka could be the answer eventually, but all rookies sort of suck. We need someone with experience.

Assuming we could do something like I mentioned above...

In a perfect world we could trade Conley and a first round draft pick to OKC in a sign and trade for Gallinari. They don't have a PG and Conley is sort of perfect for what they are doing. He is a free agent so you would have to overpay. 3/90 is probably what its going to take I assume. Maybe more.

Then sign Favors on the full MLE. Sign a bunch of role players. Resign Clarkson and use his bird rights to go into the tax. I guess we could sign Clarkson before we go into the tax if it hurts the tax on the MLE.

Mitchell, Royce, Bojan, Gallo, Gobert with Clarkson, Ingles, Niang, and Favors is a great 9 man rotation. Then whoever else on the bench to fill it out.

I am open to other guys besides Gallo and Favs, but I think we need to move on from Conley and acquire someone like Gallo instead. Let the ball be in Mitchells hands more often. And Bojan and someone like Gallo in the starting lineup give Mitchell the relief he needs on some plays. And we need someone like Royce as our primary wing defender to start and take the hardest defensive assignment.

Peace.

With the recent failures at signing a backup C, I wouldn't mind Favors. He's a luxury, but it's better than spending pick after pick to address this need.

I've watched him plenty. He is solid and exactly the big that we need.

Well, if we do happen to sign him (which isn't happening) I hope you're right......

I used to be high on his potential, but he has proven over and over again to be nonexistent defensively. I've changed my mind on him.

I am probably in the minority on this one, but while I thought Clarkson was a great mid-season pick up and served a need this past season, I would hope that the Jazz build up the bench and let Clarkson and his playground bball style go to another team, particularly if he costs in excess of $12M/yr. My guess, though, is that the Jazz overpay for him as that is their MO.

If the shift is from trying to match GSW small ball to the Lakers big ball, Favors can defend AD very well. UA will not be able to outside of 5 feet from the rim.

If the Jazz were to let Clarkson walk, sign Favors (MLE), Burks and Shaq Harrison (min or BAE), and trade Conley for Griffin or Otto or some other decent forward, I would be happy. My guess is that it is just the opposite and that Clarkson and Conley will be back.

Frank Jackson anybody?

I have no idea why we wouldn't give him Mudiay's place... or JWFs place... or NWG's place?

^^ Turns out Frank Jackson isn't an NBA player. Hard pass for me, which is too bad since he is a local kid.

Conley and a unprotected first round draft pick next year for Tobias Harris? Do the Jazz have to include more?

I'm sure Philly might be looking to acquire assets for a Harden trade. And adding a guy like Conley on a team that has had internal issues every year might be something Morey is actually concerned about.

Mitchell, Royce, Bojan, Tobias, Gobert is a nice starting five. And we all known the Jazz covet Tobias because Locke has talked about it in the past.

Just a thought.

Here we go....Tony Jones is the closest person to Favors in NBA media.

I don't mind that. The question is... why spend 3 seconds and a 1st on addressing backup C in the draft then?
