Love the signings for Utah. Got JC back, reunion with Favors. Bench looking solid for you guys. Can't overlook the prospects as well in Hughes and Udoka. Could be future Clarkson and Favors there.

Now who else for wing depth? You guys still have that glaring D specialist outside of Royce.

How many guys drafted at #27 (and projected to be drafted in mid 2nd round) play significant minutes on a playoff team? Favors was not necessarily my #1 choice but no complaints. Still think the Jazz need an athletic 3/4

Guys.....we just combined our defense from two years ago with our offense from last year. Didn't we have the number one defense two years ago and one of the best offenses last year? I know that's obviously an ideal outcome and we aren't going to be number one in both. But, it's a real possibility we are top five in both. That is a championship level team. And both guys signed fast and wanted to be here. That is a good sign to me.

Plus we all get to recycle our Favors jerseys!
Sorry but you are delusional. The jazz were clearly not a top 5 offense when it really mattered and our perimeter defense was the worst in the league. Adding Favors once again hurts our offense when playing with Gobert and we have a complete inability to play 5 out and really open up the floor for Mitchell.

I don't anticipate them playing Favs with Gobert a bunch. Favs was happy to play that limited role as mostly a backup. Maybe they play 5-7 mins together a night. Nothing crazy. And they can sub Donovan out for those mins.

And I do think they need to look for wing defense now. That should be on their to do list now.

We definitely need a long defender. Maybe a guy like Mo Harkless with the bi annual exception.

I just figured out a way to square this off-season up in mind so it makes at least a bit of sense. I am just going to pretend the draft never happened. We lost our picks somewhere along the way... lets say Adam Silver took them away for Rudy acting a fool in the early pandemic stages. If you ignore the draft... you can argue we got better... well.. maybe not as good as we could have, but better nonetheless.

I like the Favors signing. (Although I would have liked it better for 2 years.) Great back-up C, some PF. Holy hell, did ya'll forget how terrible the D got when he left? More roster flexibility just found it's way to SLC. Fav/Gobert pairing had offensive issues last go-around, but the Jazz also couldn't put 3 of Bojan, Ingles, Mitchell, Conley, Clarkson on the floor with them. Instead it was Rubio and the 2 bigs. I think it'll be an 18-20 minute version of DF this time around, which is great.

Re-signing Clarkson was a no-brainer. Right price, right fit, right-on.

As for the draft picks... well, I'm not really sold on what the team did, but a roster does need 3 bigs. Giving OA time to develop isn't a bad thing. He's a physical beast, I'll give the young guy that. Hoping to find PT for Brantley, as well. They need his skill set (length, athleticism, hustle, D).

Does this mean they are looking at options for Gobert? I sure hope not. With that said, I wouldn't be shocked to see Conley or Rudy moved at some point.

Things are looking better in Jazzland than they did on Draft night. Thank goodness.

Here's my question, are the Jazz really going to pay Faves almost $10 mil a year to basically play 18 minutes a game, or are they seriously contemplating that Gobert won't be here after this season?

Would like to add that it seems Clarkson really enjoyed his stint here and could have been promised a similar role from here on out. Could easily be taking more from other teams willing to throw money at him. Only +1M from his previous contract? That's a bargain

If he could have taken more, he would have. I doubt he had better offers.

12 players: Conley, Mitchell, Clarkson, O'Neale, Oni, Ingles, Bojan, Brantley, Favors, Niang, Gobert, Azubiuke
+ Maybe: Morgan, Tucker, Williams-Goss, Wright-Forman, Hughes, Forrest???

To me it looks like the ol' PG/ballhandler position is a little weak w/o Mudiay, but the team is still lacking in athletic, long wings, as well. Is there another trade out there? Can Brantley &/or Oni take a big step into those roles? FA? Problem with adding a FA wing is, who do you take out of the rotation? Clarkson, Ingles, Bojan, O'Neale? (Also, I'm not certain what kind of cap space they have left at this point.)

PG: Conley, Mitchell
SG: Mitchell, Clarkson, O'Neale, Oni
SF: Ingles, Bojan, O'Neale, Brantley, Oni
PF: Bojan, O'Neale, Favors, Niang
C: Gobert, Favors, Azubuike

They paid Clarkson $13.5M to play 24 minutes. Think of Favors as $10M per year less Davis and Bradley (total of $7M) pretty reasonable

Bojan cannot play PF...... It's why the Jazz started O'Neale at that spot...... Who starts there now, Faves or O'Neale is up in the air, but it won't be Bojan.......

They're paying Clarkson to basically be the third scorer behind Mitchell and Bojan...... I think Clarkson will see his minutes go up this year.......

I hope Jazz keep both Gobert and Favors, but I have some doubts about that.......

Favors is probably insurance in case Rudy wants too much $$$ and they work out some kind of sign and trade. Favors is also insurance in case the Donovan vs Rudy issue is not as rosy as the jazz would have you believe. It also wont take favors 1/2 a year to figure out the system (like Conley)

Christian Wood supposedly signing a 3yr 27 mil deal with the rockets. That is a steal based on what I saw from him last year. I was thinking he would get at least 4yr 60mil.

stitches wrote:I love Favors more than most here and I've defended him to death, but this makes no sense! WTF is going on? Why would you draft a center and then sign Favors to 3 year contract? This makes no sense! Is Azubuike going to play in the G-League for 3 years now? WTF just happened? The only thing that would make this even remotely reasonable is if we are preparing to trade or lose Rudy in FA? But then this FO would be even more stupid than if they just spent a 1st round pick on a player who won't see the floor for 3 years.

Moreover, their 1st round pick is not some 19 yr old with raw potential, but a four year college player who is supposed to be ready to play. He is also Nigerian, so who knows exactly how old he is, lol. Even worse, at a position where centers are having a hard time getting more than the minimum. Brilliant.

I love Favors, but given the option would take Wood at that price.

Without a doubt. Woods can actually play the 4 and stretch the floor.

I think some of you are overthinking the Favors signing and Rudy extension. I now fully expect the Jazz next year to give Rudy the full supermax, leaving us all scratching our heads yet again.
