Jazz and Utah area sports was pretty lucky to get this guy and he's obviously going to build his career. Certainly Walt Perrin had good things to say about him. His job will to be a talent developer and not a 3 or 4 years down the line recruiter. He's more a threat to get Lillard to NYC than Donovan given the CBA. I hope he develops their existing team and gets poached as a new Head coach. Good to see a Utah Man achieve in their chosen fields.

My congratulations to Bryant, but the Knicks is where careers go to die.

The real decision the Jazz FO is making is between Continuity, Cap Flexibility, and Cash Considerations.

For most of the last twenty seasons, ever since Jeff Van Gundy's last season coaching the Knicks in 00-01, the Knicks have been a poorly run franchise operating in a very attractive, bustling international city with excellent branding and media opportunities for players. Because of the poorly run franchise reputation, the Knicks struck out on attracting big name free agents last summer even though they had tons of free cap space.

But now the franchise has significant, new hurdles to overcome imo. Through mostly no fault of their own, NYC was hit really hard by covid-19. NYC is a huge US hub of international travel and there wasn't much testing available when their covid problem started. But now they've also got rapidly rising crime and huge pre-existing fiscal problems that that have been greatly exacerbated while being shut down for covid. Many people are leaving NYC and Manhattan property values and rents are rapidly falling. Many office people have established themselves elsewhere working remotely and have no plans to return to empty NYC offices. It could be quite a long time before NYC returns to being a great, lively bustling attractive city. So now the Knicks are a poorly run franchise operating in a struggling city as well imo.

I think the phrase "dead forever" in the title of the opinion piece below is over the top and the headline is too pessimistic, but the opinion piece does a good job detailing the numerous big challenges NYC faces. The writer is an eclectic NYC entrepreneur, born in NYC, who has had a hand/investment in wide range of businesses including a New York comedy club where he was one of the performers, as well as running a hedge fund of hedge funds, among other businesses. He has a pretty good handle on the pulse of the city.
