It's good to bet on a roll man later in the draft. Lots of success stories there. Gobert, Whiteside, Jordan ect. I would much rather take two shots at a useful wing, however, because a productive wing is so much more valuable.
I think that's fair. I'm definitely in on Woodard, FWIW, the more I watch him. Hope that is the pick at 27 (unless Bolmaro is available). Getting major Miles Bridges but with defense vibes.
I'm getting a Jerome Kersey vibe from him. I was too young to see Kersey in his prime but based on the videos I have seen that is who he kind of reminds me of.

For the first time in years I won't have a board for this draft. Have barely watched any prospect...
You've had 17 years to watch this class....or so it seems

Below is a breakdown of our salary situation and what I see as our offseason this year:
Salaries now Mike Conley $34,504,132 Rudy Gobert $26,525,281 Bojan Bogdanović $17,850,000 Joe Ingles $10,863,637 Royce O'Neale $8,035,714 Donovan Mitchell $5,195,501 Ed Davis $5,005,350 Tony Bradley $3,542,060 Georges Niang $1,783,557 (ung) Nigel Williams-Goss $1,517,981 (ung) Miye Oni $1,517,981 (ung) Rayjon Tucker $1,517,98 (ung) Total: $117,859,175
Draft picks salaries: 27. $1,977,000 [calling this Robert Woodard] 38. $898,310 [calling this Grant Riller]
I think Tucker and Goss are gone, and replaced with the rookies. If you stretch Davis his cap hit goes to: $1,668,450, which saves us $3,336,900.
1. Mike Conley $34,504,132 2. Rudy Gobert $26,525,281 3. Bojan Bogdanović $17,850,000 4. Joe Ingles $10,863,637 5. Royce O'Neale $8,035,714 6. Donovan Mitchell $5,195,501 Ed Davis $1,668,450* 7. Tony Bradley $3,542,060 8. Robert Woodard $1,977,000 9. Georges Niang $1,783,557 (ung) 10. Miye Oni $1,517,981 (ung) 11. Grant Riller $898,310 Total: $113,463,313
Lets say we resign Clarkson for a bit above the MLE, say $10,000,000 ($123,463,313) that leaves $9,163,687 under the luxury tax with 11 players under contract. I assume we bring back Brantley and Morgan on the minimum. Each is $1,445,697. That leaves us a significant portion of the MLE remaining under the tax, and we can outbid all the teams using the taxpayer MLE.
1. Mike Conley $34,504,132 2. Rudy Gobert $26,525,281 3. Bojan Bogdanović $17,850,000 4. Joe Ingles $10,863,637 5. Jordan Clarkson $10,000,000 6. Royce O'Neale $8,035,714 7. MLE $6,272,293 8. Juwan Morgan $1,445,697 15. Grant Riller $898,310 Ed Davis $1,668,450* Total: $132,627,000
Depth Chart Rudy Gobert 34/Tony Bradley 14/Juwan Morgan Bojan Bogdanovic 30/Goerges Niang 14/Jarrell Brantley 4 Royce O'neale 20/Joe Ingles 28 Donovan Mitchell 20/Jordan Clarkson 24/Royce O'neale 4 Mike Conley 28/Donovan Mitchell 14/Miye Oni 6/Grant Riller So, one of those positions you improve with the MLE.

Something I recently learned is that when teams get "hard capped" by using the full MLE, they are hard capped at the apron which is $138.928 million. In other words, there's a little bit of room where you can be a taxpaying team but not quite hard capped.
This all depends on if Ryan Smith is ready to open up his wallet, of course. You pay tax this year, lose out on receiving tax money, and likely get into repeater tax for years to come.
But if money isn't an issue, the salary cap mechanics are there for us to sign Clarkson and use the full MLE.

Yeah, I know but... this draft never really captured me. Every time I tried watching any player I lost interest very quickly. Just not my draft...

I think #27 will be (and probably should be) Tyler Bey, Jaden McDaniels or Theo Maledon. They might take Zeke Nnaji too, and I wouldn't fault them for it. I don't want Robert Woodard and hope that's just a smokescreen.
At #38, some good picks would be: Reggie Perry, Paul Reed, Jordan Nwora, Peyton Pritchard and Elijah Hughes. I'm not excited about Xavier Tillman, but have to admit he's probably in play there.
What does Xavier Tillman give us that Jarrell Brantley doesn't give us, aside from 1.5" in height and 0.5" in wingspan?

If that turns out to be the board at 27, then I'm not excited. NO to McDaniels, and otherwise ... meh. Tillman at 38 would be a steal. I actually would be fine with him at 27.

Trading back to #27 totally smells like we want Tyler Bey...
