Fourth Quarters and Clutchtime

Post#1 » by Crunch 99 » Thu Apr 1, 2021 3:18 pm

Conley really shined in Q4 last night. I think the Jazz should involve veteran Conley in a few more plays in Q4 and clutchtime on a regular basis. Mitchell is improving all the time, but I don't think giving the ball to Mitchell every single time down the stretch in tight games in playoffs will be the best plan when we also have Conley, who has many years of clutchtime experience and is still playing ball at a very high level. We need to mix it up more so that an opponent's defense is more complicated than keying on Mitchell.

Conley is shooting 54.3%/54.3% in Q4 this season versus Mitchell shooting 38.7%/33.8% in Q4. For clutchtime, defined as last five minutes of the game when the teams have a five point differential or less, Mitchell is shooting 33.3%/26.3% versus Conley shooting 57.1%/50.0%.

We've got a really small sample of clutchtime minutes this season because we've had so many blowouts, so the clutchtime stats don't mean a lot, but I think it is safe to say that Mitchell is not Damian Lillard yet, though he is working hard to try to get there.

Wow! I didn't realize how big is Conley contribution. Of course defense side is a biggest surprise.
