The Future First Rounder Appreciation Thread

Post#1 » by Inigo Montoya » Fri Jul 30, 2021 2:35 pm

Goodbye, First Rounder, we hardly knew you. It's been a while since we've seen one of your kind in our land and it will be quite a while until we'll see one of you again, you've become a rare breed indeed. Thank you for all the gifts you've bestowed upon us throughout the years, they've been greatly appreciated and will be sorely missed.

The real decision the Jazz FO is making is between Continuity, Cap Flexibility, and Cash Considerations.

Is this the 3rd worst trade in Utah Jazz history behind the pick that became Magic Johnson and Dominique Wilkins?

First they came for Cash Considerations. Then they came for Cap Flexibility. Then they came for First Round Pick Draft-Day Trade, and now they come for his older brother, Future First Rounder.

Have the protections on the newly departed pick been announced yet?

Some info on the pick protection:

Assuming the 2022 pick does go to Memphis, that would open a three-year window for this pick to convey starting in 2024 with top-10 protection in 2024 and 2025 and top-8 in 2026 before converting into a second-round pick according to my ESPN colleague Tim Bontemps. Most likely, we're looking at Utah sending out a pick in the middle to late first round in 2024. The Jazz did structure this pick so that they can offer a guaranteed first-round pick to another team in 2028 if needed for another deal.
