I think the Jazz have too much offensive firepower and should win this game. The Jazz are so deep right now, that several of our scorers can just take half the game off. Someone goes off for one quarter, then someone else goes off in the next quarter, and so on.

Maybe I am wrong, but I think I would rather play this team with Steven Adams at Center than JV at Center. Also, they are playing without Dillon Brooks, who averaged 25.8 ppg against us in the playoffs. Ja Morant has been great though.

Yeah I guess he is sticking to his rotation timing. Gobert is off to a pretty good start too.

The Jazz are only 3-5 this season in clutch games, defined by being ahead or behind by 5 points or less with 5 minutes to go in the game. Last season we finished 17-13 in clutch games. Notwithstanding how great Donovan Mitchell is, I wish we would try to run the ball thru veteran Conley in clutch time. He seems like a steadier hand with the game on the line.

And that (clutch time mandate) is a a part a bigger problem... Russian writer Lev Tolstoi came with formula: the man is a fraction where numerator is his real value ad a denominator is what he is thinking about himself. I think that is very true for basketball too.

DM is a very good player, but he is not on Curry or even Harden level. And even those don't "have" theirs teams. They play key roles, but still are not bigger than team and play inside the team flow. Only LeBron and Giannis are dominating on the level that allows them doing whatever... plus LeBron has a very high BBIQ and doing mostly right thing.

It looks that DM can't accept that so his hero ball oftentimes disrupt the game flow, especially in tough close games. And all that hype about him doesn't held to resolve that problem. I still have hopes, but if it will continue, Jazz it never become really tough fighting team for full 7 games and will never go further than Iverson's Sixers.

At the end of the game the play I thought was really dumb was when Bogie missed the three got the rebound and kicked out to DM and instead of wasting the clock he shot 10' from behind the arc. I know he can make that shot, but still use up the clock. We had like 40 seconds left or something like that.

I think Donovan has come a long ways since the days of hero ball that we criticized him for earlier in his career. He has gotten better at picking times to turn it off and on and he is a good assist man, but I suspect that he may be taking more very long threes this season as if he is Stephen Curry or Damian Lillard, and he is only hitting threes at a .322 rate. Maybe this is part of development; I don't know, but it seems more like poor shot selection to me.

But I am mainly concerned about clutch time. I just think veteran Conley has the years of experience to likely make better decisions with the game on the line, and that we ought to be trying to initiate the offense through Conley in clutch time as much as possible.

Here is our players' shooting percentages in clutch time last season, as defined by being ahead or behind by five points or less with 5 minutes left in the game. Conley didn't take very many shots, but his shooting percentage during clutch time was spectacular.

(Don't get me started about Jordan Clarkson, who appears to have the longest leash in the entire NBA to just keep firing away without regard to whether the shots are falling, without regard to whether the shots are contested and with rarely looking to pass.)

That shot is exactly why I wrote things above. The dumb move is dumb no matter who did it and did it succeed or not. But fast long shot is even more so if you have your both season and game shooting percentage well below average.
