Round 1, Game 3: Utah Jazz vs Dallas Mavericks

No word on Doncic yet. Every team can still come back from a loss in this game and win the series, but if the Jazz lose this one I'd have a hard time seeing how they win the series due to all the pressure they'll be be under and given their fragile psyche. I don't think it will happen, though. I think the Jazz win this one.

Luka is listed grey tossup GTD this morning. He is progressing well and hasn't had any setbacks on his rehab, but given Dallas already got the split at home, imho Dallas can afford to be cautious and wait 'till game four, giving Luka 13 days recovery time on the calf strain. In addition, from story below, "Doncic said (yesterday) his stepback 3-point shooting motion 'is not a problem' for his calf, but pushing off his left leg while driving to the basket or abruptly changing directions to pass, score or defend — integral facets of his crafty style —might still be".

Jazz are back home with 2 days rest. I think the Jazz likely win Game 3 by a decent margin. It would be considered a meltdown if they don't, tbh.

Mitchell, Clarkson and Bogdanovic have all been scoring well in the series. The Jazz just need to buy in on defense. I'd look for more House and Hernangomez, and potentially a few less minutes to Conley.

I could also see Rudy Gay coming in and punishing the offensive glass. The Mavs' wings aren't exactly mobile or skilled off the dribble, so I don't think it would be a problem.

We better see better perimeter defense or the coach better start pulling people out of the game. Last game we had a couple guards make a tree look fast.

Also, stop forcing it into Gobert. If he is open great but otherwise play the game.

Snyder getting out coached by Kidd is embarrassing.

They definitely deserve those boos. Hope they know it's for them.

Better have a fire sale in the off season and Snyder better be first. I don't think he is even trying at this point.

Team has no desire to play defense it's been the MO of this team for a while now. Going back to Dallas down 3-1 not the other way around.

To me it seems pretty clear Mitchell doesn't want to be on this team. He's not even trying anymore.

It is, but it also seems like Mitchell does not want to try. We'd be doing better if he weren't playing at this point, I've never seen such poor effort. That being the case, Snyder is in a terrible position in this series. I am way more open to him going after this series, though. Only players worth a damn have been Bojan, House, and Gobert.

I've thought Clarkson has been okay, but otherwise I agree.

Jazz could get a nice package for Mitchell. Just saying.

Yes, you are right. Some edge of rotation guys have shown effort, too, but not enough to matter.

I think the Jazz might need to move on from Rudy as well as Mitchell. If a team doesn’t believe they can win with Rudy and he’s making as much as he is it’s going to be incredibly hard to compete.

It’s just time for a reset. Sometimes the ingredients just don’t mix. At this point I think blaming any one person is pointless besides maybe the FO.

Well, Donovan has come alive with Rudy off the court. Maybe they really do hate each other? idk

We already saw something like that with AK and DWill. But at least DWill at his prime - and in Sloan system - was really better than somewhat washed up AK.

As for DM, yes, he is more efficient this year, but still is not even of Kobe-level - and Kobe did nothing without really, really good centers.

So that is the end of the road.

Having watched when we had Rudy on with Royce off, it seems spacing is a major issue - Royce is getting the Ronnie Brewer treatment. When you can send a double or pack the paint with two players it shuts down our entire offense. We came alive with those adjustments. But Donovan's defense was absolutely inexcusable.
