Jazz trade Rudy Gobert to Chicago for Nikola Vucevic, Patrick Williams and 1st round pick

Thought this was a real trade, too light.

Yeah, I thought this is a trade that just happened.

I don't like this trade. Vuc is a bad defender and we are a team full of bad defenders. He's also 31. We're basically doing this for a FRP and Williams. That's a pass for me.

Add a high lottery pick and another meaningful asset for taking Vucevic and it becomes a real discussion. Williams has potential, but hasn't proven much yet.

Maybe there's a third team that values Vucevic, Williams and a pick enough to offer real compensation for Gobert, but I doubt it.

Gob is only guy that should be untouchable from this team, rebuild around michell would be epic mistake, that would bring full tank mode in couple of years

If they like Udoka's potential, they do this trade

Just look at what freaking Vucevic or Sabonis got in a trade. If you think Gobert should fetch less then I don't really want to talk about basketball with you. We should treat Gobert with the respect he deserves and not with the urgency CAA wants to get rid off him. If someone wants him they should know who they are trading for - 3 time NBA all star, 4 time All NBA, 3 time DPOY, 6 time first team All D, the best player on a perennial playoff team. And it's not like those happened some distant time back in the past...like 5-10 years ago. This is still the same player! PUT SOME RESPECT ON THAT MAN's NAME and stop with the insulting offers.

Eh. Marcus Smart just won DPOY while making 14M this season. He's a 3 time Defensive All NBA first team. He can win DPOY twice more and that still wouldn't make him worth 40M per season. There is no doubt Gobert is an elite defender, but his contract is way too large to the point where it becomes a hindrance.

100%. Thank you. Smart isn't even in the same impact stratosphere as Gobert. Smart is a borderline NBA starter who got DPOY based on a marketing campaign built on a false narrative that a "small guy" was due the award. (And voters bored of voting for the guy who deserved it.) Insulting Gobert's impact is par for the course these days. He's not a perfect player, and his weakness can be exploited, but that doesn't diminish being a historically good defender & also a positive offensive impact player. He's not overpaid by NBA standards.

Comparing Marcus Smart to Rudy Gobert is like comparing Jordan Clarkson to Steph Curry.

I think someone is going to way overpay for Donovan and we keep Gobert. If for some reason these two can't play together, which I find it hard to believe, then Donovan is the guy that gets you the most in return. I also think Gobert is the more impactful player of the two for the team. So you are further ahead if you get an overpay for Donovan and keep the more team impactful player in Gobert.

As far as the Lavine idea goes... Its not realistic. This would have to involve Vuc. If not it just doesn't make since for Chicago to have both Vuc and Rudy making 60+ million at the same position.

I think this is why there are rumors that Chicago and Utah are looking for additional trades. I think they're looking for someone to take Vucevic.

yes, and as it turns out, lavine's former salary is what counts in trades, so it couldn't be a straight up swap anyway

the bulls weren't ever going to trade lavine for gobert anyway. even if that would be an eminently smart decision

Do Jazz fans tend to view Gobert as the best player on the team?

I kind of always looked at him and DM as kind of 1A and 1B with a slight edge to DM. Maybe bc his game has more flash.

However, I am a bull fan and did not see the jazz play more than 3-4 times last year.
