Utah whiffs at the draft
Calling it now, all the talk and still have the same team.
Ingles is cooked.

Liddell slid all the way to back of the second round– seems they could at least have bought a pick for a guy who could potentially help address their most glaring weakness. If Gobert & the olé squad stays, the Jazz really need a secondary help defender on the floor.

Re: Utah whiffs at the draft
I'm frustrated we didn't get a 2nd, as well. That's not a huge ask. Golden State drafted Gui Santos with a 2nd they tried to trade, I would have loved to walk away with Santos. I don't mind the Juzang pickup, though.

Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.
Draft Nate Wolters - FAILED
Keep Nate Wolters - FAILED

The real decision the Jazz FO is making is between Continuity, Cap Flexibility, and Cash Considerations.

At least the old boss bought picks.

Said in reference to Utah's trade assets in a potential Doncic deal.

Re: Utah whiffs at the draft
I'm not worried about this at all. The cost for the #11 pick was THREE protected future first rounders. No thanks, if that's the going rate for a mid-round pick. Yeah, I'm sure they could have got a 2nd rounder, but if there wasn't anyone they loved (like J.Butler last year), then a trade just for the sake of a trade isn't a good move.
The Jazz's roster wasn't going to be saved with a late 1st round or 2nd round pick. I still expect a fair amount of trade movement from this team.
And, give them credit ...
They signed Johnny Juzang to a 2-way deal, who might have been an early 2nd pick last year, then didn't really improve this year, which seems to have hurt his draft stock. I consider him "slipping" and the Jazz got themselves, at least, a mid 2nd round talent with upside.
They also signed Kofi Cockburn, who may be just as good as Azubuike, but without the 1st round pick contract hit. Not saying that he's going to be great, just that if the Jazz want a big, athletic center in their stable, that he's a cheaper alternative to Azubuike, and may find his way onto the roster if they trade Doke.

Re: Utah whiffs at the draft
The Jazz were reportedly trying to move Mike, Bojan and Royce before the draft, but didn't find any deals they liked. It also does sound as though the Jazz aren't trying to get younger to the point that they're looking to trade for rookies. I liked guys in the draft, but I'm not sure how determined the Jazz were to get in.
Also, I think Jordan Usher looks interesting. He could possibly make the rotation as an Amir Coffey/Cody Martin/Danuel House-type backup wing.

Re: Utah whiffs at the draft
Kofi Cockburn is a decent prospect, imo. He moves really well and has a really high energy level for a man that size. Good hands and catch radius. Runs the floor pretty well. Has good balance and timing on this post moves. Physically, he seems close to Andre Drummond, though he's a touch taller and not quite as long. Clearly he's a beast. Not sure why a team wouldn't draft him, tbh. If your 5-man isn't going to space the floor, he may as well dominate the paint.

One thing I like about Cockburn is that he can make plays on the move without having to stop and gather himself like Udoka. He's more fluid.

Re: Utah whiffs at the draft
Pretty much every trade that happened included draft picks. We don't have any we can trade or want to trade so that probably limited Ainge to what he could do. And honestly I was hoping we were getting into the top of the draft with a big trade. I'm not upset we didn't buy a second round pick as not many of them would make any difference this next year anyways. There is always some good undrafted prospects that can fill that roll. If we make a trade I want it to make us better as a team not just change for the sake of it.

I was eyeing #16 (Atlanta) and #18 (Chicago) in case a trade involving the Jazz happened. Who knows, maybe AJ Griffin or Dalen Terry will factor into a trade for Gobert.
