With Durrant staying put, will teams looking for that next level scorer now come forward? Knicks may now get more competition. Possibly the cost goes up.

Not sure it changes significantly but it frees teams who were waiting on KD to now focus on possible deals for DM.

I think it helps and can put some pressure on the Knicks because there is one less available star to trade for, and more competition for Mitchell. I also think that a possible Durant trade held up a lot of other league-wide transactions, and everyone were waiting for the situation to be resolved. I think we might get to see a few trades happen now that the situation is resolved.

The short answer is yes. I mean it also puts more leverage on Knicks. I mean is they want to compete with Brooklyn m, they need a Mitchell type player. New York only wants to give two unprotected picks and a hot dog. Other teams can beat their more recent offers…

I think, even if competition went up, bidding price will go down. If KD didn't bring good enough return to compensate his downgraded by his drama value, DM will command even lesser price, because buyer prices for KD will set the ceiling for DM.

Basically I think it means no mammoth trades this season, so Jazz most likely is stuck with DM for at least next season. And that his future will go more or less along DWill path (who by the way was quite a bit better player both in ceiling and by achieved level).

Wow, this post missed by a country mile.

KD is 8 years older than Mitchell and also not quite the same player as before the injury.

More importantly, he is a 3 time loser in terms of trying to force his way off a team that was good enough to be a possible contender. This is the main thing that knocked his trade value into the dirt. Nobody trusts him not demand a trade and force his way out again.

Mitchell is significantly younger, healthy and has a reputation for being a good character guy/professional.

KD today is nothing like the KD of a few years ago. KD's lack of trade value had absolutely zero impact on what Utah ultimately got for Mitchell.

IMO depends on how you value the players we got. The pick value is relatively similar.

MIN 25=CLE 25
MIN 26 swap = CLE 26 swap
MIN 27 = CLE 27
MIN 29 < CLE 29 (Cleveland pick is unprotected, MIN is top 5 protected)
MIN 23 ~= CLE 28 swap

Overall I think the value is relatively similar. I can see the case for either being better, but IMO neither is a lot better than the other.
