I like the quote- it makes me chuckle. And it was/is pretty much true.

From old Jazz fans I'd like to hear, what's the verdict on the Mitchell / Markkanen-Sexton deal - which team won? As soon as I saw the details, I thought Jazz and now that I've seen a few games, I think even more so.
But I won't argue if someone suggests it was a tie. Well?

It's a win/win as far as I'm concerned........

Agreed. Lauri has been nice. Sexton looks like he's recovered from the meniscus and is being mentored by Conley. I have high hopes for Agbaji. We won't know the real "winner" until the picks are determined which is going to take years to sort out.
Obviously Cavs must be thrilled with Don.

Lauri, in my book, is a hell of a lot better than RJ Barrett...... We'll see about those Knick vs Cavs picks.......

Both teams won IMO. I also liked the Cav package more than the Knick package. I think it would have been dumb of the Knicks to that trade. So win/win/win.

Clarkson, Olynyk, and the refs are really helping the tank right now.

Jazz withstood the Memphis run to start the second half and got it going again.

Re: Game 8: Memphis Grizzlies (4-2) @ Utah Jazz (5-2)
What a heck.
Is Jazz goal to tank for Wembanyama or make the playoffs because that was 2nd straight win of Memphis.
Markkanen once again Jazz best player making 31 PTS 11 REB 2 AST 2 STL 4 BLK.
Ainge probably is livid and absolute infurious of all this winning ruining Wembanyama dreams.
So lets enjoy all of this so long when this fun goes on.
Yes everyone knows that tanking doesn't always work but seriously what's Jazz main goal.
Is it making Markkanen an allstar or getting Wembanyama.
I'm Bulls fan so i don't have horse in this race but as a Finn my goal is also keep eye on how Lauri does in Utah.
And so far i've been impressed of that how well Lauri has been able to bring his Eurobasket games to NBA this autumn.

A few things here:
Ainge in Boston never bottomed out to tank. He rebuilt using other teams draft picks while putting out a competitive team at the same time. There is no history that suggests he wanted to be the worst team in the league.
The worst team in the league only has a 14% chance at getting the top pick. Odds were never good at getting Wemby anyway.
Hinkie got run out of the league for tanking too aggressively. Adam Silver is very concerned with the league's reputation for having a tanking problem and has been adamant about teams not tanking out of the gate. If you look around the league, the handful of teams that were supposed to be tanking are all winning games they really shouldn't. This is no accident.
The real tankathon will begin in a few months. Regardless of Utah's start, I still expect them to be in the running for Wemby by the end of the season. If the team is too good for this, we are still in a position to rebuild with a ton of picks and swaps, including a bunch of unprotected picks. Even if the team is in no man's land where they might sneak into the playoffs but have no chance of winning their 1st round, they still have a mountain of picks to use to improve. This is not the same situation as being right in the middle and having to depend on your own picks only.
Utah is in a fantastic position, regardless of how this season plays out. Fans should relax and enjoy this season, as we are currently playing with house money. You won't have many seasons where you can feel good with both wins and losses.
New York said Mitchell wasn't the guy you trade the sink for, then they traded it for Mikal, lol.

Thanks for that.
14% chance for 1st pick is not much so plan B should always be ready.
Of course anything can still happen because season is still young and most teams are still finding their game.
Lauri has played really well and been fantastic which is great to see.
Jazz has been totally surprising team defeating Memphis 2 times Nuggets 1 time and Pelicans1 time.
All those are playoff teams so lets see how long Jazz can keep this winning mode on.

14% for the #1 pick is still the best chance one team can get, but if you have a top 3 worst record, you have a 27% chance at one of the first two picks, and Henderson could be a #1 in any other draft, so it's not all about VW.
As for the Mitchell trade, I think both teams got good value, and I think both Mitchell and Markkanen will be All-Stars this season.
I'm really enjoying watching this team and they look like they are having fun out there and like each other. But while it's great fun watching them, I still think the most beneficial thing to do for the long-term is to lose as many games as possible this season.

Houston, Orlando & probably Pistons are going to be the 3 worst records. Then you have a lot of chances than other teams being worse than Jazz (trying to lose) like Pacers, OKC, Kings, Spurs, Hornets, wizards to name a few.
Hardy is doing a great job, and players want to win always. You can trade some assests and still this team is not going to finish a top 3 worst record.
