So will Lauri Markkanen make it to the ASG or does he even have the standard to be among those few stars? Have yor say, thanks!

It seems like the coaches play favorites to be sure at least one player from the host city gets an All Star.

That's not saying that Lauri isn't having an All Star season, because he is. I'm just saying that there's a lot of competition for roster spots, and there will be players who get left out that are on equal footing with those who do make it. With that said, I think it's very unlikely that a host team in the playoff hunt won't have representation, and he gets a little more push since the AS game is in SLC.

In addition, I think it's highly likely we see a Jazz player (Beasley?) invited to the 3 point contest, and maybe even someone like Agbaji asked about the dunk contest (where it's usually a bunch of end of bench contestants).

Last year there was a team Skills Contest, and I'm sure if they do that again, there will be a team Jazz, maybe with some combo of 3 of Clarkson, Lauri, Olynyk, Conley & Beasley.

I have no interest in the insane cost of tickets to attend any events, but it should be fun to see a strong Jazz representation during the weekend, considering it's really a snooze-fest during a typical year.

Absolutely yes.
But if regular season's team success is more crusial than individual stats
then it might be so and so is Lauri into allstar game this season yet.

Probably Lauri won't make an allstar as a starter but bench player he should be close if not clear selection.
And now every Jazz fan should vote Lauri into allstar voting i'm already done that and will do again some point.

I think Markkanen is very deserving of an All-Star spot but I think it is very unlikely he'll be voted in by the fans. I think he'll make it with the coaches' votes.

Not very many Jazz players are selected via fan voting over the years. Even Stockton and Malone were selected by the coaches several time during their reign as perennial all-stars, so I agree with Inigo about LM being added as a coaches choice. Who knows, depending on how the voting goes, Steph and AD will probably get voted on but may be injured and can't play, so replacements will be taken and maybe Clarkson could get a shot if he keeps playing at the rate he has been so far this season. Who knows, it could happen...

You never no, he might get the Finns to vote a lot.

Probably via Coaches.

This year in the west have not very strong teams, so I don't see teams with 2 or 3 players like in the past.

Some players are a lock if they aren't injured

Dallas - Doncic
GSW - Curry
Nuggets - Jokic
Pelicans - Williamson, maybe Ingram if he doesn't lose a lot of games.
Suns - Booker
Clippers - George
Lakers - James

So there's 7/8 spots, there's 4/5 open.

Then players like:
AD having a good season but injured too often and his team without good record
Paul is not having a good season to be selected
Fox in Sac? maybe, but Lauri is doing as good as him.
Lillard could be too, since his team is doing fine.
Gobert and Towns?? His team is not doing fine with them, both have declined in production over last years.
Shai deserves it as individual... but his team is not doing good at all

Then Spurs and rockets don't look to have any allstar caliber player and their record don't help them.

If the jazz continue in playoffs contention I think is probable he is since some players have declined (Dray, Klay, Paul, Westbrook), other are not playing enough (Davis, Leonard) and other are losing too much (Gobert, Towns, Shai)

Funny you should say that; I was thinking Markkanen could participate in both of those. 8-)

You really thought this through, cheers.

I think KAT and AD being out clear the way for Lauri. Jokic, Zion, Sabonis and Lauri should be the All Star bigs in the West.

You don't think Lebron gets one of the big spots?

I think he probably gets one of the guard/wing spots. Is he listed as a Big on the ballot?

Bigs: Jokic, Zion, Sabonis, Lauri...
Guards/Wings: Luka, Steph, Ja, SGA, Lebron, PG (if he's played enough)...

Markkanen might find himself included in this list after the season is over: Alvin Robertson, Dana Barros, Tracy McGrady, Jermaine O'Neal, Danny Granger, Kevin Love, Paul George, Jimmy Butler, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Victor Oladipo, Brandon Ingram, Julius Randle, and Ja Morant.

Markkanen is very close to having a 50/40/90 season. He's already over 50FG% and 40%3PT, and only needs to improve his free throws (currently at 84.7%)

Lebron is listed as Frontcourt on the ballot. So I'm guessing he'll get one of the big spots

Imo, the league should have an All Star provision whereby any player that hasn't played in some minimum percentage of games by the time of the All Star game, for example 80% or more of his teams' games, is automatically eliminated from the All Star roster and replaced by the coaches. I don't know whether such a provision would impact the final rosters this season, but a player isn't really playing at All Star level if he has missed a lot of games.

Not impossible but I doubt he could improve that part of his game that much. I mean 90% from FT.
