This is a pretty great offer sheet design that will be copied forever moving forward.
This is a pretty miserable signing as all of the Jazz's backup C minutes should be taken by John Collins.

I don’t think 76s match it puts them into luxury tax and if they make it so far in playoffs the last 2 years are guaranteed and so it gives Jazz a out most likely where good chance Sixers will end up paying luxury taxes. Really smart signing to steal him away cheap and could waive if this year doesn’t work out.

Anyone who saw what he did in the playoffs when Embiid was out understands this move. If they don’t match this could mean Olynyk will be shopped.

I don't get this signing. We have plenty of F-C players on the roster, why do we need another one? We might as well have kept Jones who performed well when he played and was much cheaper. What am I missing?

I like it. Great bench depth and the money is relatively small.

We are adding assets for trades.

“One of the terms of the offer sheet provides a unique twist: The first season of the contract is fully guaranteed and the two following become guaranteed for $15.7 million if Reed’s team advances to conference semi-finals in the 2023-24 season, sources said.”
Cute.

How is Reed an asset if he never plays
How is Collins an asset if he rarely plays (which might be the case if Reed plays)
Too many guys, no way to have them stay as assets.

Collins will play. He's gonna start. But what I'm saying is yes Reed will be an eleventh type of bench player. But if you read it it's basically a one year deal. And he isn't horrible. I like him on the bench at 8m in case of injury or nights off for others

If he's a one year deal, then why not just keep Jones who was making around $2M and was good when he played instead of paying $7M for another player who will play very few minutes?

You do not pay 3rd string centers 7.3m.
It's really weird to do.

Collins
Markkanen
Kessler
Olynyk
Hendricks
Samanic
Reed
----
Vernon Carey Jr.
Potter
All these guys can play PF/C. I tend to agree with mark53 that this might be a precursor for a trade.

I agree everyone but something is up. Well it better be. And in those types of trades you have to send contracts to acquire a star. Four or five players just like the Rudy deal. I agree it's a bunch of money though. That I agree but I like the player

We also play big on the frontline. So you need around 6 bigs in case of injury/foul trouble.

I thought Carey was waived?

Not sure, as he played in the summer league (that's also why he and Potter are separated on the list). Either way, we have plenty more.

Samanic being on the roster is not a reason not to upgrade. He can be moved or released.

There are plenty more players on that spot though, which is the point.
