Utah Jazz roster business

Post#1 » by Fido » Sat Jun 29, 2024 11:05 pm

Since trades haven't happened so far, here is the upcoming roster business:
June 29 (today) is the qualifying offer deadline for Kira Lewis Jr., Johnny Juzang, and Micah Potter. Per Tony Jones, the Jazz are NOT extending the offer to Kira Lewis, ARE extending the qualifying offer to Juzang, and no word yet on Potter.

July 6 both Lauri Markkanen and John Collins become extension eligible.

July 25 Kenneth Lofton Jr. and Darius Bazley have $400k of their contracts guaranteed. That increases to $600k on opening night (October 22). They become fully guaranteed on January 10.

October 31 is the 2025-26 club option deadline for Hendricks, Sensabaugh, Kessler, and George.

January 10 is when Omer Yurtseven's contract becomes fully guaranteed.

Very informative, thanks.

I hope Lofton and Bazely are retained. Don't know if Yurt will be after drafting Flip.

Don't have an issue with not retaining Potter. I wish him all the best and hope he gets a chance in the NBA.

Not surprised Lewis isn't retained with outcome of the draft. If the Jazz keep Juzang then it's about time they let him play more consistently with the team so we'll see what he can do. He can shoot and at times looked like a legit NBA player.

Reportedly, the Jazz were interested in teaming up Mikal Bridges with Paul George as two big stars but when the Knicks traded for Bridges that snuffed out that plan. It doesn't sound like there are "big" stars left out there for this year, so maybe this turns into another growth-for-the-youngsters year.

Jazz are signing Drew Eubanks from Phoenix on a two year contract. Not a big move but he is productive.

I'm getting the feeling that someone is going to make an offer the Jazz will jump at. Per Jake Fischer, Golden State, Sacramento, San Antonio, and Minnesota have all been showing interest in Markkanen.

What would Minnesota have left to offer? The Jazz already own all of their picks and probably wouldn't want KAT. Can't see them being a serious option.

Unless KAT is going to a third team for assets, there's no deal to be made.......

Even if he does, what are the Jazz getting from Minnesota? I can't see a scenario that ends with Markkanen on the Wolves. Maybe they can be part of the trade as a third team but they're not landing Lauri.

KAT to third ream, third team sends assets to Jazz in a three-way, is what I meant...... I don't see it happening, but we shall see......

Personally, I don't want to see the Jazz make any roster additions. I'm fine with what they have and the only additions I'd like to see is maybe young talent coming in back from trades of Clarkson, Collins and maybe Markkanen.

I agree with that, trade Collins and Clarkson, only trade Laurie if you get a great deal......

If this is our final roster, I'm going to be depressed for a while.
I'm getting old, and I don't have patience to wait 2-3 years sucking waiting for a rise.

FJS - I am probably as old or older than you. I have been following the Jazz since I was 20 (1987). It has been rough following this team since Stockton & Malone. I have bad news for you, it is probably going to be longer than "2-3 years sucking waiting for a rise".

Nobody has commented on DM signing an extension with the Cavs which won't help our 2025 Cavs pick.

Final comment, not sure where to put this but Ainge is now in the middle of his 3rd summer with the Jazz. I don't see Ainge getting 1 or 2 key players to play next to Markkanen this summer and I think most of us are just waiting to see what the Jazz get in return for trading him. The lack of clear direction the past couple of years (not tanking and not making the playoffs) would get a lot of GMs / Presidents fired in this league. I am curious how long of a leash he has with ownership.

Yesterday Locke actually played a video of Ainge talking about his intentions, which actually made some sense. It's from that media availability day when he talked about going 'big game hunting.' In short, what he said was that they didn't outright tank because they were trying to put themselves in position to add pieces and if that happened they'd have who to play with. In other words, if they went full tank then if they added good players it wouldn't have been enough because those players would arrive to a gutted team. Whether I agree with it or not, I can understand the logic.

Another thing he said is that they were going to go 'all in' at trying to bring in players (the 'big game hunting' bit) but if that doesn't work and if they get to July without getting anything then 'our direction can change.' It starts in the 15:00 mark.
