A new season is around the corner so here's a new thread for all that goes on around the league.

KAT traded to the Knicks, I wonder what implications this will have for those picks down the road.......

I'm guessing this is more of a salary move than a pure basketball one? KAT is an excellent shooter and he made it possible for the Wolves to play him with Gobert. A Randle-Gobert pairing is not something I think will work as well. I think the Wolves will have issues with floor spacing and I think they got worse.

I agree this is a financial move..... I think Randle, if Wolves keep him, will age worse than KAT...... So, this should be good for us......

The Wolves now have a starting 5 of pretty bad 3 point shooters (last regular season stats):

Mike Conley: .442%
Anthony Edwards: .357%
Jaden McDaniels: .337%
Julius Randle: .311%
Rudy Gobert: .000%

They shot a bit better in the payoffs but at least with the starting 5 spacing is going to be an issue.

This Kat trade is the beginning of things falling apart in Minnesota.

Those picks just increased in value.
New York said Mitchell wasn't the guy you trade the sink for, then they traded it for Mikal, lol.

I would assume that Randle is flipped for a more workable rotation player. Ingram? Something like:

Utah in: picks and filler

NO in: Randle and Kessler

Minny in: Ingram

Why would the Jazz move Kessler for picks and filler? They have plenty of both. The salary difference between KAT and Randle is about $20M per season so it's a huge saving for the Wolves (but a worse fit). Ingram is reportedly looking for max money so he'd be making close to what KAT was making, and I don't think the Wolves would like that.

Is his market max though? I guess I’m not a believer in Kessler, he doesn’t have that dog.

Good question. Right now it looks like the max isn't there for him which is why he's not being traded. The question is how much lower than the max he'd be willing to take and if it's enough to make a difference between max or almost max.

As for Kessler, he's probably the best and most proven young player the Jazz have on the roster so far, and the only one who has shown he can be a decent starter. I'm not in a hurry to move him.

The issue is the team needs to fall apart in 2027 in particular as that's the only valuable pick they sent Utah.

Falling apart in 2026 or 2029 does little for us and falling apart in 2028 does nothing.

And it could.

By summer of 2027:
No KAT
Gobert will have expired, do they resign him at 35 yrs old? Probably not.
Conley will have expired, the won't extend him and there is not a true PG replacement on their roster.
Randle will have expired, assuming that they keep him as his fit over the next two seasons is very questionable.
Naz Reid will have expired, although one would think that they resign him.

Exum is out with another injury.
https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/41698984/sources-mavs-dante-exum-months-wrist-surgery

Snip: Dallas Mavericks guard Dante Exum is expected to miss three months after undergoing right wrist surgery on Tuesday, sources told ESPN's Shams Charania.

Exum suffered the serious right wrist injury during a training camp workout and sought multiple opinions before electing for surgery this week. His extended absence is an early-season blow to the Mavericks' backcourt, which will now rely heavily on Spencer Dinwiddie, Quentin Grimes and Jaden Hardy.

Injuries can turn seasons around in a hurry. One or two key injuries, and Utah could have multiple lottery picks in 2025.

I know some people like to believe their crystal ball tells them the future, but it doesn't.

The Cavs are 7-0 currently. They would need like three major injuries to miss the postseason.

Something is up with pop in San Antonio. He was ruled out with health issues and the local beat writers said it wasn’t serious but Shams is reporting that it was very serious. I wonder what that does to his future, I’ve thought for a while that we’d be lucky not to lose Hardy to SAS if he contract comes up around pops retirement.

He probably thought about the possibility of pairing Wemby with Flagg and had a heart attack.

Bad news for the Jazz: Both Holmgren and Zion will be out for a significant amount of time, putting the Jazz at risk of winning games they shouldn't.
