Anyone else miss Hot Rod?

Hot Rod was a stud and lately I've been wanting to mute my TV and turn the radio up. Boler is just ok, I don't hate him, don't love him. And Booner, you gotta love, just cause. Halftime show sucks balls because Pace Mannion is on it. I like DJ, but I can't stand to watch because of Pace. And don't even get me started on Steve Browns horrible commentary, bad hair, and cheap double-breasted suits.

So pretty much beyond Hot Rod, Boler, Booner and DJ, Utah sports personalities suck.

I can listen to DJ and PK in the mornings, but John and Hans on 1280 belong on 97.1zht or something. Neither of them know a lick about sports. Jake and Jim, Alema Harrington, Monson and Graham... Suck, suck, suck, suck, suck. All of them. Locke is ok, he's knowledgeable, but extremely annoying and he thinks he's the ****.

Is it just me, or does anyone else get frustrated that we can't find a decent, informed opinion on the radio or on TV for that matter... Mike Runge on Fox? Shoot me in the face, and that pretty much goes for the rest of the TV guys. Freak, you could put me in a nice suit stick 10 lbs of makeup on my face and I could run through the scores better than these tools.

no, I don't miss him at all. Maybe early 90s Hot rod. But from about 1996 on, he's been progressively more terrible.

You could/can hear Hot Rod becoming more and more intoxicated as the game goes on. Its not coffee or water he keeps in his cup at the broadcasting table.

Hell No! He is a senile old man that can't finish a broadcast with out slurred speech. I think that he is a great American though.

I love Hot Rod! He has personality and once pissed off my Mom by calling her "babe".

I have heard a lot of different teams TV commentators, and the Jazz have one of the worst groups. Not the worst though, that belongs to the trailblazers and the rockets. I liked hot rod, being a play by play guy has to do with flair and charisma. Boler is a tool, that guy spits out so much hot air. I would rather be entertained with a funny drunk than a sober loser.

I couldn't disagree more.....It's not that I think the Jazz's group is so good, it's just that the majority of the other teams' announcers are way worse than the Jazz.....Denver is the worst with their constant complaining about EVERY damn call.

No...Bolerjack is by far the sorst announcer I have ever heard. He tries to be cute by making up trite phrases and over using them.

I'd rather hear that than how AI is getting hacked every time down the court without a call.... :banghead:

Hotrod was a terrific play by play announcer. I much prefered him to the current group.

Boone is useless and Boler is just annoying.

I don't know who'd be any better though. Think we can get Mike Fratello to do our play by play?

The Jazz keep everything in house...which doesnt necessarily mean the best talent. Im sure there a more talented people out there somewhere, but LHM will never hire them. Look at everyone that works for LHM or even in Utah (when it comes to sports), they all have definitive Utah roots. The one guy that doesnt seems to be is Ross Siler.

Kevin O'Connor?
Frank Layden?
Jerry Sloan?

None of these folks have Utah ties other than those formed after joining the organization as far as I know.

boler and boon suck period. boler just doesn't give a ****, and booner makes the most obvious, incoherent comments i've ever heard. hot rod is drunk, but at least he's entertaining. whos to say boone isn't drinking a little somethin during the broadcasts? he called korver millsap last night for christs sake, how do you **** that one up?

First of all, nobody is a worse commentator than Steve Brown. Listening to him is like listening to nails on chalk board. I honestly cant stand to hear him talk and make his asinine comments. Just thinking about it is annoying.

As for Boler and Booner, they aren't terrible but they aren't great either. Booner really is captain obvious, and Boler is kind of a dud who lacks imagination. Or a thesaurus.

Every once in a while they will say something that is so silly and random it makes me laugh. For instance during the Spurs game when Duncan was at the FT line they commented on how he doesn't shoot them well. Then Boler said you know what he does do well? And I thought they would comment on something about basketball because he's Tim freaking Duncan, but Boler answers his own question with swim. That was all that was said. I personally found that ridiculous and random.

Couple more things, if I have to here about Matt's football bankground one more time I might snap. Also does it bug anyone else that when they do the 'tough question' Booner answers the question without actually answering the question?

You wanna bring back the guy that drove Stockton into retirement? Wow.
