Is it just me or is anyone else hoping the proposed deal of Shaq to the Suns for Banks and Marion goes through? I don't really see this trade helping the Suns at all...

^ I'm with you. I'm really hoping this trade goes down because it's going to hurt Phoenix. I can't believe the Suns think adding an old, broken down Shaq is going to get them over the hump. In my mind, Shaq is the complete opposite of the Phoenix offense. He doesn't run and can't shoot. If he was in his prime it would be one thing, but he's a shadow of what he used to be. Also, losing Marion is really going to hurt, he was so versatile and added so much to their team. I really hope this goes down becasue it only helps our chances of getting a good seed.

It will help to motivate Shaq. The trade can't help him that much. It doesn't make sense. I like it for Miami.

The only reason I see why the Suns are doing this is so that Nash wont be as worn out running up and down the court come playoff time.

Personally I don't see how this helps the Suns except for in 2 years when his deal comes off the books. Also the Suns must be looking to make a push right now fearing Oden and Bynum this year and next.

This trade has everyone scratching their heads.

Marion's deal comes off the books at the end of this season or next. Getting cap space can't be the reason. I know their owners are cheap but this doesn't add up.

I like this deal, and I think it is just the Suns desperate attempt to answer to the Pau Gasol trade. The only advantage it does end up giving them is puts Amare at the 4 til shaq is done really.

Im sure you all already knew this, but Yahoo is reporting that the deal is done.

Its an interesting deal, that I think favors Miami more than it does Phoenix, but if Shaq can get healthy....and stay that way, then it might be good for Phoenix. I just laugh each time I think of Shaq lumbering up and down the court trying to keep up with Suns "run and gun" style of play.

The Suns are a lock to make the playoffs with or with out Marion, and he is going to be gone after this season anyways.

All you need to do is rest Shaq for the remaining 30 games of the season, don't let him play more then 20 minutes in any game, make sure he remains in game shape and pull him out for the playoffs and hope he can give you a healthy 15-20 games.

If he does that there is still nobody in the league who can stop him, then add in Amare and Nash. It's definitely a gamble and it could obviously set them back huge, but it could also pay off big time.

suns fans are going to learn that Mike is a terrible coach. Heat fans are going to learn marion is a system player err wait I think miami will run more now, so I guess that kinda scratches that, all I know is this does hurt the suns and I for one would like to thank Steve Kerr.

Shack is done. Bad trade for Suns as they are simply trying to go for it bc they know their team not able to win at all without a true center. Problem is Shaq simply sucks.

I thought this trade was ridiculous when I first heard it, but now that I have had more time to think it over, I think the suns actually came away better. I think the suns are going to transition from a full time "run n gun" game to running a more traditional inside out game. That doesn't mean they stop the run n gun, it means they are more versatile and can when needed run a half court. Shaq is still shaq, he still requires a double team in the post and he is a great passer, so when that double team comes, he can kick it out to one of the suns 3pt shooters. As far as shaq's decline this year, I think his number will definitely go up, why? Steve Nash. Playing with Nash alone will get shaq more opportunities and better shots.

But I still believe this trade is not going to help The Suns. I pretty much think Shaq is one of the five most overpaid players in the league right now.

I dont like blockbuster trades involving Western teams, but I dont think this is gonna make The Suns better, at all.

suns have no inside presence. they need shaq so they can free up amare. there are some positives in this trade. i think the suns did this trade because they want to beat the spurs. i mean steve kerr probably knows shaq is the only few that can beat the spurs with his inside game. however, i think steve kerr forgot that shaq is pretty much useless now.

I think a lot of you are underestimating what Shaq can still bring... that is if he is healthy.

The Suns have pulled the lever on this deal for one reason, for the Playoff run and to get by the Spurs. I believe they think they would have beaten the Spurs if they had a big body to bang against Duncan etcetera... They believe that Shaq gives them a viable option against slow it down half-court playoff basketball teams like the spurs and rockets. They haven't been able to get past the Spurs or Dallas, and they must be thinking NBA Championship or Bust.

Only time will tell, but I think it helps Phoenix because half-court basketball = championships(Spurs, Detroit, Miami,)

any team to trade for shaq would hafta to give up more talent than what they are receiving just based on money. IMO shaq is one of the most expensive per talent level players in the league. the fact that its the suns doing it and giving up marion and banks makes me kinda laugh at them.

no i do laugh at them. when the jazz meet the suns in the playoffs, i wont worry about marions slash and all-over-game, or banks and his outside shot and passing capabilities, and my worries over shaq have now declined to only worrying about how big his backside is in the paint. it was a weapon to fear when we would play LA but now i think it has gone down to merely an annoyance (if and when he does play).

last year, the jazz could compete with the suns in a series and probably lose, but this year, not only would the jazz compete but they might even dominate a series against them. if i was a pho fan, i'de be very angry. but i'm not, so i laugh.

As a Jazz fan I love this trade because it made the West that much easier. What was Phoenix thinking? Even if (BIG if) Shaq stays healthy I see the Suns being much worse off. It's hard to believe that an old, overweight Shaq is the best they could get for Marion/Banks.

What the hell is Pheonix thinking? This is going to destroy thier franchise for a long time. Shaq still has a little game, but his skill set does not match Phoenix at all, especially at the high price. By the time that contract comes off the books, Nash will be past his prime and they'll be looking to rebuild.

If Shaq din't have that hefty contract he would make a nice back-up Center for some team, but as it is there is no way that he is worth the risk.
