Favorite SLC restaurants

Post#1 » by jazzfan1971 » Sun Mar 2, 2008 12:10 am

I thought this would be a good thread to get ideas on good places to eat. Feel free to comment as you please.

Mexican - La Puente - Smothered Burrito. Yum!
Italian - Tucci's - Chicken Parmasian. Unusual, but, terrific.
Asian - Thai delight cafe - Curry. YUM. Just the curry though.
Burgers - Crown Burger - Bacon Cheeseburger, it's hard to beat.
Date night - Cheesecake factory - Spicy Cashew Chicken. My fav.
Pizza - The Pie. I like the divey atmosphere too.
"Thibs called back and wanted more picks," said Jorge Sedano. "And Pat Riley, literally, I was told, called him a mother-bleeper and hung up the phone."

lol I ate Spicy Cashew Chicken first in Cheesecake factory in Las Vegas, and man that is hawt!

Crown Burger I must agree... they know how to make the burgers.

I must add a couple of my own

Spanish - http://www.cafemadrid.net/ My goodness.. the octopus, lemon mouse incredible.

Utah - http://www.diningattemplesquare.com/roof.html The roof makes up for a great evening with friends, family, or what I use it for... DATES! Take your ladies during November the night the turn the lights on, and to a Jazz game, and it becomes a great evening.

Afternoon meal with the boys - Chicken Express - great value
Indian - Curry in a Hurry & Bombay House - love me some chicken curry
BBQ - Q for u - love me some southern cookin
Greek - Greek Souvlaki

I agree with your mexican and burger pick and you know there is one official date night restaurant in UT and thats The Olive Garden.

I dont really like any of the Italian or Pizza here. I like those more traditional Italian places and there really arent to many here, although Robintinos is alright.

La Puente! Mmmmmm....smothered burrito with cheese and onions...

Everytime I come back to S.L.C., I eat there 2-3 times at least.

For burgers, Apollo, Astro, Crown, Training Table, Hires are all good.

For Italian hit up the Italian Village and get a side order of meatballs. Unbelievably tasty and you'll be burping that taste back up for further enjoyment for at least a day.

I go to the one in Midvale across from Hillcrest High School. There's a new one on State Street, roughly 3500 South.

Just make sure to get a smothered burrito. Anything else is very average, but the smothered burrito is amazing. Be prepared though, you'll be pooping hydrochloric acid the next day that'll singe all the hair off your bunghole.

The Pie has the best Pizza I have ever tasted. That includes the best American style pizza I had in Italy.

When it comes to sandwiches though you cannot beat Caputo's on 3rd West and 3rd South. I have seen Jazz players there all the time too, so you know its good.

But when it comes down to it, simplicity is the key. My favorite eatery? Barbacoa on 9th and 9th.

La Puente IMO is the only half-decent Mexican restraunt in all of Utah.

Ew... no... that is the grossest Mexican Asian-based buffet... no diversity, and crappy food. Better to go to a golden corral.

As someone who attended the U for umm... ten years or so, I always found the Pie to be overrated. Good for looking at girls, less so for eating. Not bad, just not great. For pizza, in my youth, Der Ratskeller was de-fuk-n-lishus and in the modern day, as odd as it may sound, I like Round Table.

And Duiz, don't be dissin' on Golden Corral. Nothing wrong with hamburger steak with mushroom gravy!

For Indian cuisine (especially Tikka Masala and Chicken Curry) the Royal India in Sandy absolutely blows the doors off of anything else in S.L.C. Seriously. If you haven't been there, I highly recommend it. 13th East and about 104th South.

OK, food and restaurant expert here. Vainsake you are SO wrong, it ain't funny.

Mexican - Red Iguana (N. Temple before the fair grounds) - The Mole is famous nationally.
Italian - Al Fornos (east of down-town by the Stonewash-if that's still there)
Asian - Little World - 13th S State - crummy ambiance but awesome authentic food
Burgers - Cotton Bottom (By Tuscany, where the rich people live) - B & D Burgers at the U if you are too young to go to a bar
Date night - Market Street, any one of them, I like the Cottonwood Oyster Bar alot- If that's too rich, Z-Tejas at the Gateway is good and fun
Pizza - The Pie. But only the one at the U, good times, good times.
Japanese - Ichiban is really good and has the best ambiance
West Sieeeeed- The Pho restaurant at 33rd(I think) and Redwood
Sandy- Royal India 13th east and Sego Lily by Smiths
Wild Card - Porcupine Grill at the mouth of Big Cottonwood
