Stephen A. Smith = POS

Okay, I don't like to harp on the relative media coverage of D-Will vs. CP3. BUT...
I was watching the halftime show of the Thuggets/Spooz game and Smith was giving his top three players of the night. His #1 was CP3 who posted 25 pts, 16 dimes and 3 boards en route to a 11 point win at HOME versus the powerhouse N.J. Nets. The dude nearly spooged in his slacks while gushing over how incredible Paul is. NOT ONE WORD about D-Will who posted 25 points, 15 dimes and 6 boards while leading his team to an 8 point comeback win ON THE ROAD against a legitimate Western powerhouse (okay, maybe not as much a powerhouse as they used to be, but still 100x better than the Nets.)
I was chafed to say the least. I always thought Smith was nothing but a loudmouthed tool, but this just took the cake.
Anyone else catch that?

I already knew what this was about before I opened it.
Just let it go dude, we cant get mad about every single mundane thing Deron gets over looked for. Its a stupid meaningless name only award. Im sure Raef Lafrentz had also won it one night about 8 yrs ago.

I hate to say it, but I have to agree with Sheik. Personally, I just can't keep up with them anymore, only if I am in the face of the beast I will confront it, but I agree, nevertheless this media hype is very disgusting.
Paul hadn't even proved a notch to be a better PG when he got the face of a major video game last year. I don't know how we can expect the media to stop that now.

My thing is that Deron knows he is better, his teammates know he is, the franchise and fans. Deron has dominated him 1 on 1 and Tony Kornheiser says Derons better.
Who cares what everyon else thinks.
Now lets all do the dance thats sweeping the country.

Steven A Smith also flat out said that Chris Paul was going to beat out Deron for the Olympic spot this summer. Whateva . . .

funny that right behind him there is a picture of Chris Paul.
About CP3 beating Deron to the Olympics, I can believe it. Chris Paul was the starting PG on the mediocre team that lost the championships, but he was in the first year with Coach K and the new Team USA system.
I wouldn't count on Deron being there, unless Billups is removed.

Deron had 5 turnovers to Pauls 1.

I wonder when Jazz fans will realize what a terrific player Chris Paul actually is.
Of course, anyone that pays any attention to SAS is more of a fool than SAS.
And that's hard to do.

Just a theory, but timing might've been a factor.
The Jazz-Suns game finished only shortly before the Halftime Show, and the studio crew probably didn't have long enough to put a highlights reel and loose script together for SAS's special segment. Again, just a theory.
Just don't let it get to you. They'll wake to him eventually. Especially if he goes to Beijing and plays a bit.

If Stephen A. gave Deron any love than he wouldn't get teh buttsecks anymore from Chrissy.
No, but seriously, Chris Paul is definantly a great point guard and one of the very best in the league. I know that as a Jazz fan its my duty to argue that Deron is better, but come on guys, seriously, look at the stats. Chris Paul has slightly better stats than Deron and he deserves credit for them. Stop being homers for a few minutes and realize that yes, at the moment, Chris Paul is better than Deron Williams. I have a feeling that will change within 3 years or so, but right now Paul is simply better.
On another note, Stephen A. Smith is a complete (Please Use More Appropriate Word). Jazz fans have never listened to him before, why start now. Just watch, when New Orleans gets eliminated in the first round and the Jazz are 3 games up in the second Stephen A. is gonna start saying that Deron is the very best PG in the league and pretend like he never hated on us. Screw SaS.

You're absolutely right and I've made similar comments in many CP3 vs. D-Will threads. Just for some reason, probably coming off the adrenaline rush from the Suns game, it really chapped my ass.

Steven A Smith is more entertainer than sportscaster. On TV there are experts of the sport and there are commentators. Smith is a pretty funny guy to listen to, he is payed to say outlandish and speak in hyperboles. I kind of enjoy his takes on things, because his belief in the is absolute. Jazz fans need to stop hatin paul. The guy is awesome, only 1 TO with 16 assists! Being a deron fan is great, just don't be blind about it.

I counter you with Deron had more rebounds and he beat Phoenix @ Phoenix. The Hornets beat the Nets in New Orleans.

But really guys...
Can't we go one week without a disrespect or Paul/Deron comparison thread or discussion? It's getting way way old. We all know Deron is sensational, and we all know Paul is sensational. Deron will get his due as he did last year come playoff time.
If you're mad about the Jazz lacking in respect or its players lacking recognition, need I remind you they play in Utah, and you need to accept it and stop getting angry all the time.
It's life. Tough. We'll see come playoff time.

Sorry, but a 16:1 assist to turnover ratio is more impressive than a 3:1.
I think the unreported thing is how many of those are alleyoops from Paul. Deron Williams usually has to execute half court to get most of those assists.

Smith is outa his mind. Though, he was spot on about the Bulls. He said something along the lines of "The Bulls are a absolute disgrace"

There is a simple reason that "CP3 is better than Deron Williams", but it has nothing to do with basketball. For whatever reason, the NBA has this blatant fetish with rebuilding the geographically inviable New Orleans. Chris Paul plays in New Orleans. It is as such in the NBA's interest to promote him as much as possible to help attract attention and money to New Orleans. I have little doubt that ESPN, TNT, etc all serve as mouthpieces for the league when needed.
I'd still like to know why there's so much focus on rebuilding it when this
is actually the least of the engineering problems associated with keeping the city out of the ocean.
There's also that the giant cliff the city is sitting on top of is trying to slide away, and that the Mississippi River is trying to re-route itself away from the city, which would take away the small amounts ot deposition they still get. There's a long article on the huge list of problems that showed up shortly after Katrina floating around somewhere.
Also I personally think Deron is a bit better, but they're both damn good.
