Do you guys have a draft pick this year?

Post#1 » by Hendrix » Wed Apr 2, 2008 5:35 am

Was talking to a Jazz fan and he said you guys don't have a pick this year, and traded it to New York, and traded the 2nd rounder to Philly. NBADraft, and Hoopshype both have you in the draft though. We were just wondering what the deal is there. Protected picks?

Your friend is a little misinformed.

We do indeed have a pick this year. We traded a protected 1st rounder in 2009 to Philadelphia, with I believe decreasing protection in years after.

The Knicks owe US a pick...heavily protected in 2008 and 2009, completely unprotected in 2010.

But as for '08, yes, we have our own pick.

I really wouldn't mind dealing both of our picks away. We really should, unless we were to get a decent Point Guard. Man, it sucks when we are loaded with depth. the 11th string guy pulls out a quiet 29 point outburst, you know you are deep.

3 picks...well at least at the moment. If we keep our #1 and plan on re-signing CJ then the 2nd rd picks have no chance of making the roster.

That's right, we are not obliged to sign the second round pick. Honestly, I wouldn't even want a first round pick that might have to be confined with the Flash.

I don't think that we have three picks in this draft. Just our own in the 1st rd and our own in the 2nd rd, if I'm not mistaken. I would be very happy to trade both of those picks and some combo of Collins, Hart and even Almond or Miles to bring back some pg depth and a defensive 4 or 5.

Hart could easily be bought out next year.

Utah has its own 1st and 2nd round picks and could conditionally get the 76ers 2nd round pick (top 45 protected this year--as of 3-31 nbadraft.net had the Sixers sitting at 46 so it is still a possibility).

Well, what PG can be put in the Team, and not be as bad as Jason Hart. I would love to see Kevin Kruger getting a chance.

I'd actually rather hold on tho CJ and let Andrei go so he can shine somewhere. CJ is loaded with talent and potential, plays good man defense (even did well vs. kobe) and is hella young. He fits into the system, Andrei doesn't, unless we want to let Boozer go.

So basically, i like the trading for a defensive big idea (Price has been more tha ideal as a back-up) but I would rather see trades involving AK and Hart/Collins than anything with Miles or Almond.

Im sorry but Kevin Kruger has no chance in the league.

My Jazz draft board would be:

Robin Lopez
Devon Hardin
Hasheem Thabet
Darren Collison
Ty Lawson
Tyler Smith(perfect replacement for AK...on paper at least)
Brandon Rush

I was thinking the Jazz might keep him as insurance and because he could be teamed up with Collins to make about 5mil in expiring, but with 13 guranteed contract and us wanting CJ back Im guessing that he will be traded or bought out over the summer.

I'd prefer to trade for a backup PG and wait for a big D (Fesenko faith factor here). The rest of your port deserves a +10

I don't know...Andrei has looked pretty good of late. It would depend on WHO you get in return.

Right now NBADraft.net has the Jaz taking Roy Hibbert. That wouldn't disappoint me at all.

That would be awesome.. Didn't know his stock dropped that badly. Wasn't he projected a lottery pick last year??

www.nbadraft.net

Well, to be fair, this site is pretty far off this early. They don't hone in until the last week.
