OT: Other Jazz Boards...

Post#1 » by DWillBooz467 » Tue Apr 8, 2008 4:01 am

I've been looking at other boards just to see what else is out there and man it really makes me appreciate RealGM. They're either almost nonexistent as far as posts go and the ones there are, are too old to even waste your time on. I was able to find one that had a fair amount of posts but man if you thought trolling was bad here. Holy crap!! Pretty pathetic. For the most part people here are respectful and knowledgeable. I personally don't have the time to post as much as I would like but it sure is nice to be able to come here and read posts that are well thought out and researched. Has anyone here had similar experiences?

RealGM Rocks!!

Since KoE left, the board has been far more respectful and polite, but definitely somewhat more boring.

RealGM ain't too shabby, better than Jazzfanz.com and their terrible color layout which makes me not even want to read from there.

RealGM is one of the best message boards for any subject. The Mods overall do a quality job, and it seems like for every terrible post there are 2-3 insightful posters.

I love this place.

I love jazzfanz, but I know quite a few people there personally. I will admit you have to ignore some of the characters there...

RealGm is fine as well. But there are plenty of trolls here too, although mostly on the general board.

I agree. Realgm is great, much better than jazzfanz, the people here aren't nearly as stupid.

Jazzfanz is unreadable. RealGM has plenty of idiots, but on the whole, there's no comparison.

I have posted at both for years.
Jazzfanz has a more steady cast of characters that stick, and less folks from other teams troll there. It takes longer to be part of the group.

This place has it fair share of regulars, but it also has a lot more trolls and flame wars, mostly because of all the other teams involved.

If I had to say which was better.............it would depend on the day.

I've been a regular on that board for more than five years, but I'm not a prolific poster like some. I actually joined earlier than what it says, but that's because my account got deleted and I had to rejoin.

One of the problems, at least for me, is that you get posters who take over the board and just post nonsensical stuff just to get their post count up. There was one a few years back, Tuff Tiger, who one day suddenly just disappeared. We didn't know whether he was a she or a he, and was very belligerent.

Now we have Aint Nuthin, who uses this black dialect (one of the mods calls it midwest trailer park, but I don't agree, it's definitely black) and to me comes across a bit racist and definitely homophobic and twists things people says in rebuttal to make himself always right. I am really tired of him.

It's like these people live to post messages instead of merely trying to share information and opinions. These people also really piss off board members and make you not want to post any longer.

Hmmm, Jazzfanz.com or AdGM.com? Boy, that's tough.

RealGM blows, period. Unfortunately, I can't seem to stay un-banned over at JF, so I'm forced to sit through 30 seconds of page loads on every thread, and half the time, only the ads load and I have to refresh.

It seems to me, after only a few weeks of posting here, that there are only 4 or 5 real contributers, and a handful of people who think they know what they're talking about -- along with a truck load full of idiots. Granted, JF has it's share of tards, but this site takes the cake.

The nice thing about here is that it sifts out the people too dumb to use AdBlock plus on their Firefox.

On Jazzfanz.com:

1: You can change the color scheme if you don't like the default.

2: TuffTiger was a guy, and he didn't just vanish, he went on a mission.

3: Jazzfanz used to actually be affiliated with RealGM. If you went to the jazzfanz message boards, it took you here. When that affiliation ended, they set up the boards there and promised to never have any pop ups. And by the way, some of us browse from work computers and can't install 3rd party browsers and ad blockers.

4: Both sites are great but Jazzfanz has PMs, email notification of new posts (and it works, unlike here), and Jazzfanz has way more traffic than here.

Comparing Message Boards is difficult. It really just matters who is on the board. I like real gm because you can get a lot of different opinions and more often opinions that are as clouds by Jazz Punch.

Jazzfanz does have a lot more traffic but most the time there isn't really anything to comment on.

It's rare to find an interesting thread around here lately.

Last season, this forum had much more passion for the playoffs, and on the whole it seemed we had better posters with a little more insight.

This season, we have pre-pubes with pom poms.

RealGM is entirely tolerable if you use FireFox and install the Ad-Block Plus add-on.

I was using it on IE the other day and shuddered. Doesn't even look like the same site.

if you are here ONLY for jazz threads and not to browse other teams forums, general forums, or seek out opinions of fans of other teams, (you know, get an even rounded opinion of your team) than i guess this is a debatable topic.

but i dont. i have the realgm jazz forum bookmarked but i navigate from here. rarely do i spend all my time in the jazz portion of realgm. just looking at the main forum page on realgm clinches any debate in my mind for realgm.

I have an account at JazzFanz but I've never posted. Once in a while I'll read their boards but it just seems like the same 5 people talking about nothing. Plus I like the outsiders perspective that RealGM offers.

The only problem with this board is there are a lot of posters who just post fluff that doesn't really contribute to anything, and some of the older regulars act like a bunch of ornery old men who get deeply offended and resort to name calling if anyone has a different opinion than them. And I'm more of a reader than a poster so I miss some of the more colorful characters that either got banned or just quit posting.

But RealGM > Jazzfanz imo. By a lot.
