Who do you want in the Draft?

So who do you guys want the Jazz to take in the playoffs. Please don't say Kevin Love or someone who there is no possibility of us getting. I saw one mock draft that had Utah getting Tyler Hansbrough, and I'd love that. Anyways, who are some other possibilities?

Hansbrough would be nice, but he'd just take minutes from Milsap. I think the best thing to do with this pick would be to trade it for future pick (s). We really have no room for another young guy, maybe PG but Price is playing quality minutes; SG - No room whatsoever (RealGM's mock has us taking TWO SG's. Brandon Rush being the first); SF (could use some depth here Harprings shelf life is running low. PF/C, wouldn't mind a Defense big maybe Roy Hibbert or Hashem Thabeet.

Why the hell would we want Tyler Hansborough? We already have too many power forwards as it is and he's not going to be anything special in the NBA (I'd definitely rather have Millsap.) I'd look at trading the pick, honestly. We've got a lot of young players and the only positions we could possibly help ourselves at picking in the late first round are the backup center and point guard positions. However, I'm pretty comfortable with seeing how Fess and Ronnie P. develop and if we're looking for upgrades, we should look at veterans who are either free agents or available in trades rather than late first round picks.

We really don't need any more SG's, but I think that Brandon Rush could be our smartest possible choice. We've been going back and forth between the SG position, and I think that Brandon Rush is the man that could seal the deal and send us straight to the finals. I really think that guy has a bright future in the league.

From Duiz's draft thread before he deleted it:

Duiz wrote:Great season = poor picks.

As of right now, we own the 24th, and 54th pick in the draft.

But take a look at our depth chart

PG - Deron Williams/Ronnie Price/Jason Hart
SG - Ronnie Brewer/Kyle Korver/CJ Miles/Morris Almond
SF - Andrei Kirilenko/Matt Hapring
PF - Carlos Boozer/Paul Millsap
C - Mehmet Okur/Jarron Collins/Kyrylo Fesenko

Contract expires this summer
Contract expires in summer of 2009
Contract expires in summer of 2010
Contract expires in summer of 2011

I am really worried for CJ, cause I don't think we might be able a contract good enough for him to stay.

I am guessing we want to draft a PG that can take Hart's place, and probably dispose our 2nd round draft pick. That way we can clear Fesenko to move in after Jarron's contract expires.

we definitely want to get rid of the salaries that Hart brings. Since we have a 3 man 4-5 rotation we can afford to get off Jarron Collins. We must be able to afford the Williams and Millsap salaries too.

So I say, lets draft a PG, perhaps DJ Augustin
He was 4th in assists during his freshmen year, and I think that he can very prolific in a system that doesn't need him to score. Also his rookie contract is very nice.

Trade the picks package them with someone perhaps. This team doesnt need anymore youth.

However if there is a defensive Combo guard maybe look at them. No need to go big center that should be fess or fez or whatever you want to call him next year.

Its a bit early for a detailed draft analysis, but in my opinion the Jazz's offseason priorities should be finding a Center and a point guard.

My personal preference would be to trade out of this draft altogether, unless someone unexpectedly falls to 47 (the pick we will be getting from Philly).

If we keep our first round pick, someone like Robin Lopez or Roy Hibbert might be a possibility. If Daren Collison were to fall to the Jazz, I'd have to take a look at that as well. In any case, with the kind of depth the Jazz have, a draft pick isn't very likely to see much floor time next year (just ask Mo or Fess).

Hibbert could fall to a place that we could pick him. That would be a big upgrade over Collins (what isnt).

I am in love with Joe Alexander out of West Virginia. He is seriously a rich mans Matt Harpring except for he can also freaking dunk in your face. I dont think he is coming out this year though.

If a quality PG fell to us I would also be fine with that. Miracle Man Chalmers outta Kansas? Maybe. He and Booze can talk about Alaska with each other.

That would be great the 2nd biggest state of jazz fans would be without question Alaska. People barely know Utah exists add in Alaska and Iowa(from Kyle) and all 3 of those states could actually combine to equal like a New Jersey

I don't think people yet realize that we need to sign contracts for Deron Wililams and Paul Millsap, and I am sure Deron's isn't gonna be a feather.

Chalmers, Collison or Hibbert.

All proven players who contribute right away.

am I the only person that thinks Hibbert is the 2nd coming of Ostertag? He is slow, unathletic and isnt known to be a defensive big, he just clogs the lane. I personally want Robin Lopez, he plays great D, is the more athletic twin and can block shots. If a player like Lopez doesnt drop then I think we move the pick and perhaps use our 2 2nd rders to move up and get Chalmers, that way we dont have to sign him to a guranteed deal.

I think in order to keep CJ and his all star potential, in a addition to Millsap and Williams, we need to cut the cord with Kirilenko. Package him with some draft picks or Hart, get a solid defensive center.

Kirilenko is just amazing but isn't doing it for us in this system, plus he has a problem with self-motivation.

We won't get equal value, talent-wise, but once again, I am really confident about CJ and don't necessarily think being stacked with talented, max contract players is always a good thing...it causes issues.

Hibbert is a waste of a pick. I really am starting to think that people just don't get the point that we can't afford having two players

People seem to forget that Ostertag really did help get to 2 Finals. He was a big piece. Without him it would have been really tough to get past Houston with Hakeem as well as the up and coming Lakers and one Shaq Diesel.

Having another "Ostertag" wouldnt be that bad. This is a mid 20's pick. We cant get stars, we need role players.

Hibbert is a great value pick at 25 or whatever. He's big, and slow, but Geogetown did nothing to emphasize his game. He was severly misused I felt. He isn't an offensive juggernaut, and he isn't Greg Oden on defense, but he's tall, active and works hard. His long arms do enough to scare off easy jumpers in paint. Keep him for a couple of years, trade him when Fes is really ready .

Yeah, I am not huge on Hibbert either.

Chalmers would be sweet, I don't know a ton about him but I have been impressed with what I have seen.

I think we should go back up pg or c.

Hibbert is not what we need. I really don't know too many of the prospects, but I do know Hibbert and we don't need him.

2nd rd picks dont have guranteed contracts chief. Us keeping out pick is dependent on who may land to us. If we get Robin Lopez or Hibbert then we will carry the max 15. If its a guy like Chalmers, Augustin or Collison that some how lands there then we will probably trade or buyout Jason Hart.

The draft is the last chance to get your hands on this yrs expiring contracts, so ideally Utah would want to try and move AK on draft night.
