The future
PG - Deron Williams, Ronnie Price. This rotation looks rock solid to me. The Jazz do like to have 3 pgs so there is room on the bench for one more, and I think we have Hart for one more year, unless it's a team option.
SG - Ronnie Brewer, Kyle Korver. Both of these guys are fitting in perfectly. I think this rotation is rock solid as well. However, I could see Korver taking Harpring's minutes, opening up room for CJ or Almond. But, that's probably down the road, not next year.
SF - Andrei Kirilenko, Matt Harpring. Rumors will probably persist for AK, but, he's doing just fine. Harpring is doing well off the bench. Unless a trade is made, this seems pretty solid for next year. Could one or both be traded? Maybe.
PF - Carlos Boozer, Paul Millsap. Rock solid as they come. Got a team option on Millsap insuring he'll be here next year.
C - Mehmet Okur, Paul Millsap. I think Millsap/Boozer see most of the backup minutes at C now. It's been a while since Collins has been much of a factor. Millsap is a hard man to keep off the floor, so it's not surprising that he's taking Collin's minutes. But, will this situation continue? Does it have to continue to keep Millsap happy? Is it best for the team, or should we be looking to give some of Millsap's minutes to Fes or a guy we draft, or a guy we trade for?
What about Fesenko?
Does this kid get to see the floor in the playoffs? I'd say most likely not.
But, will he be given a roll on the team next year? I find it hard to believe that he'd find minutes when Collins struggles to see the floor. So, do we expect him in the developmental league again?
And what about Almond? He certainly did well in the developmental league, but, can he take minutes from Korver? I doubt it.
What about Miles? Is he a free agent? Will he be back? Would he want to come back to be the 3rd string SG?
Then what about this year's draft pick? If we don't have room for Fes or Almond do we really have room for another rookie? Or two? I won't be surprised to see the Jazz trade this pick. I won't be shocked if they just sell it for cash. (worst thing that can hapen from a fan standpoint)

"Thibs called back and wanted more picks," said Jorge Sedano. "And Pat Riley, literally, I was told, called him a mother-bleeper and hung up the phone."

I think that if the Jazz brass seriously feel that we can win a title in the next 2 yrs then they wont trade AK. He has to be traded at some point, because of his salary and because we have younger and less expensive players that can do nearly as much as AK can do. AKs value might not be as high as it will be this season, especially if he has a good playoff run.
Matt Harpring is a mystery...his knees are terrible and I wouldnt be surprised if he retires before his contract is up.
I think the Jazz have to re-sign CJ, but here is the problem. Sloan loves 3 pg's...not only on the entire roster, but on the active roster. So if we re-sign CJ, Mo finds himself back in the d-league again.
Fess is in the same boat and Collins has one yr left and Fess will play a similar role to last yr.
The draft pick depends on draft day, if a big slips to us (Robin Lopez, Hibbert) we have to draft them, because you just cant find bigs anymore. If a PG like Collison, Lawson or perhaps Chalmers(he has to work his way into the 1st rd) we might have to look at that as well. If nothing is there we can trade for a future 1st. I think both our 2nd rders should just go to euro prospects.
As for your cash prospective(for the pick) we would never do that, we arent in the financial bind that some of these teams are and KOC likes having reusable assets. which a future pick would give us.

Agree with the consensus. IF the team wins it all, or is very close, we will likely keep AK and the team may look quite similar.
If we get smoked, Kirilenko may be moved for salary flexibility. Big difference between paying the luxury tax for a real contender, and paying it for a first round exit. (We are a young team, and although Kirilenko is a good asset it's not like our window will close if we don't keep him.)
I also still doubt that both CJ and Mo will be on the team next year. I'm thinking one or the other. Keeping both might have been the case with an expiring Giricek around, who would have been allowed to walk...but now that Korver is around for a while, I don't know how many scoring wings we're going to keep. Let's hope I'm wrong.

I have no inside knowledge, but this is my best guess for the Jazz's offseason:
1. Draft Picks - I think their preference will be to trade at least two of the three (late first, mid second, late second) picks. I don't see the Jazz keeping the first pick, especially, since they don't want to guarantee a contract to a player who will likely not see the court in 08-09. Stashing a couple of guys overseas is a possibility, but Euros don't seem to be what they once were.
2. PG - Jason Hart gets bought out or included as filler in a trade. he's obviously not the answer for the Jazz, even as a third string PG.
3. SG - If (and its a big IF) the Jazz can resign CJ Miles, I think he ends up as the starter here, with Korver coming off the bench. Almond is the third swingman.
4. SF - I think an AK47 trade is coming. My guess is that Ronnie Brewer gets the majority of his minutes here next year with the ex football player getting backup minutes. Once again Almond can swing here as a third option.
5. PF - Boozer is entrenched (barring injury - knock on wood!). I think the Jazz like Millsap but I'm not sure they can keep him here. He could very well end up being trade bait as part of a sign-and-trade.
6. C - A Healthy Memo is the key to Jazz domination. I think Fess is going to start getting Jarron Collins minutes next year, but Millsap will see the majority of the backup minutes at both PF and C. Collins is a goner.
That leaves us with a lineup that looks like this:
PG - Deron, Price, ???
SG - CJ, Korver, Almond
SF - Brewer, Harpring, Almond
PF - Boozer, Millsap
C - Memo, Millsap, Fess
Obviously this assumes that AK gets traded, so depending on what we get back that changes things. Thee are not a lot of holes there, but there is still room for improvement at backup PG, backup SF, and they could use a defensive big (depending on Fess's development). Looking at this team, though, its amazingly solid considering the contracts and youth that they have.

I don't think there will be any big changes for 08-09. This team can make one more run, and then in 09-10 the Jazz make moves.
I think the biggest question for next year is CJ. I bet the Jazz go with Mo and let CJ play the market. I'm pretty sure CJ will find a 3 year/9 mill deal elsewhere. If not, maybe the Jazz pick him up for another year for cheap.

I agree completely, a lot will depend on how the jazz do this year. As far as harpring, I think with korver, he is expendable (however, he isn't going anywhere). I think that Fes will have a much larger role next year, I don't know about Mo. Having Milsap as a back up C is a joke, the guy is 6'7" (with shoes). He plays good D, but when the guy he guards is half a foot taller it doesn't matter how good your D is. Thats why Fes is very important.

I think people are sleeping on CJ. Imho, he is a lock to be on this roster barring a Jerome James type contract offer from another team. Larry loves him. He has worked hard, done almost everything asked of him, shown apparent growth from one year to the next, and quite plainly is an NBA talent. What more evidence can you ask for?
The elephant in the room in this debate is AK, and his exorbitant salary. I wish like hell we had a dominant center to play the 5, and that we could line Andrei up at the 4 where he could be in his comfort zone and get back to being the dominant player of old. But that's not going to happen. Its quite obvious at this time that he is the odd man out, and as soon as a good trade presents itself, he's gone. With him leaving, that creates a pretty major gap in our lineup. We would no longer have that big wing who could slide to the 4 in a pinch, guard the bigger SFs in the league and be a utility guy.
That's why I would love a shot at Batum in the draft. He would fit the role perfectly.
I like us to keep all of the CJ/Mo/Brewer/KK group. With both Matty and AK getting phased out within the next 2 years, there will be plenty of room for all of those guys.
Price is nice, but I question whether he will ever be considered a real plus off the bench. We need a guy like Eisley in his heyday, that will provide a steady hand and could start in a pinch and still maintain the flow of the offense. I would love Chris Duhon, actually.
Overall, I don't see any major changes in the future, with the obvious exception of AK's inevitable trade. The only way I see any change to our core is if somehow, some way, a sure-fire stud defensive big man comes available.
Its amazing to think that we've come from the days of watching McBrick, the Miltness, and Devin freakin' Brown playing major minutes, to a roster loaded with young talent AND high quality production......all while our own fanbase ranted and railed about the stupidity of our management.

The thing about trading AK, is that it won't be very easy to do. We will need to sweeten the pot for some team to take his salery. I think that means that Almond will be thown in to the AK trade. Not to mention that we will likely have to take back two or three guys in order to match saleries, so we will have to clear a couple of roster spots.

Or we could just dump him, then somebody would take him without us needing to sweeten the pot. If Im KOC Im calling NY all summer trying to trade them AK, Hart and Collins for Marbury and picks(whom we would waive or buyout and is in the last yr of his contract). And before everyone calls me a loony, realize that we will never get the fair value for AK and we arent trading the AK of 3 yrs ago. Were trading the inconsistent one of now. With this trade we get roster spots and enough cap room to sign Deron, Millsap and CJ to new deals.
