Did anyone catch Ric Bucher's comments on Colin Cowherd today about ESA and Homecourt Advantage.....
I dont have the exact transcription, but it went something like this
"Well, lets just face it. They are a mormons and there is nothing there in Utah. So when they go to the games they have the one chance to let loose and not have to smile and be all nice all the time, and they get loud, vicious."
He then tried to backpedal a little and say, "Well, I dont want to blame it all on the Mormons, thats painting with a broad brush, but they are as bad as any NBA fans anywhere."
I cant believe a guy who is a NATIONAL sportswriter for ESPN, would make comments like that. I wish I could find a transcript of exactly what he said......What a TOOL!

I don't love the Mormons either, but come on. They're really not that bad and **** like this guy give them way more s*it than they deserve. I can't believe that dude's nerve. I hope they fire his ass.

I'm not mormon either, but crap like that is just ignorance.
If he were to go in and say the only reason New Orleans plays good at home is because they have a bunch of poor southern baptists who can let loose when the Hornets are in town he would be fired. I see no difference here honestly.

If someone can find me the link to that I'm gonna email ESPN and make sure that doesn't happen again.

It was on Colin Cowherd's NATIONAL RADIO broadcast today. 1320 KFAN has been talking about this afternoon and have replayed it a few times.
To me its on the same level as Imus "nappy headed ho's" comment.

Oh wow. Stupid Jackasses like this guy make everyone else think negatively of SLC. Come on, this guy makes it sound like every single person in the state of Utah is a super good Mormon who has never seen a PG-13 movie and has never had a drip of alcohol, and that when it comes to the Jazz everyone is allowed to go out and do whatever the hell they want. Not how it is at all. I bet if you walked into the ESA on game night and had a head count of the Mormons there you would probably find about 20% of them is Mormon. This guy is a fking joke.

I could be mistaken but isn't SLC the least Mormon city in Utah?

Mormon bashing is a freebee on national TV. Specially, with the mormon sect in Texas.
Expect Reverend Sharpton to give his endorsement to Cowherd.

I know silly. I am parodizing the idiocy of the national media. They keep calling it mormon sect even though the split happened over a dozen decades ago. Even on the BBC and CNN.
Go figure.

EDIT - Just saw your last post Duiz. Good enough for me.
That being said, Bucher's comments were stupid, but I think we are making a bit too much of them. Besides, I'm pretty sure that its in the constitution somewhere that Mormons are the one religion that its OK to mock.
Its just another example of the national media's ignorance about Utah. The Jazz need to start spending some serious marketing dollars wining and dining every national broadcaster they can, otherwise the stereotype will continue to be presented as truth rather than the fallacy it is. Since these guys are so ignorant, we need to educate them rather than just complain when they say something stupid.

Let Ric Bucher talk all he wants. He made a stupid blanket-type statement. The only people that would listen to him are more ignorant people. Ignorance will always run rampant about things people don't understand. That principle will never change. Even if the Jazz poured money into a marketing campaign to reverse the sentiment, it still wouldn't change. Even if we win the championship it will only get worse.
And ya know what? That's ok. Let people think whatever they want. People who live in Utah or know anything about Utah understand what its really like here. Just because Ric Bucher or any other dumbass says something doesn't change that.
Is it annoying and straight up wrong? YES. But it doesn't matter. We still have our winning basketball team and a great future ahead of us. I don't care what anyone says about the fans at the ESA... because either way its the best homecourt in the league.

bucher is too in love with kobe to give props to any team or player - to him the c's, spurs, jazz, pistons, mavs, hornets etc shouldn't even bother suiting up for the playoffs.
we all live to serve the laker purple and gold - to him anyway.
delusional punk. doesn't he know to never mention religion like that on a public airway?!!!!!!!!

Don't ask me how someone could ask the question last night, and me answer it so coincidentally before this incident happened today in the radio.
National media is just ridicoulus, and I do wish that someone could give it a stop. Even mocking islam is more prohibited than mocking mormonism. I don't care if I am mormon or not, but just as a resident of Utah, you can notice how flawed and full of bigotry these comments are.

It is honestly the equivalent of saying the reason the Knicks are crappy is because they have the highest Jewish population watching them. It's crap, and he should know better.
It's a setback to the LDS religion, Jazz fans and the state of Utah as a whole.
It's pathetic and immature and someone in his position should know better.

Anyone think anything comes of this? Like... an apology or a clarification?

Nope. ESPN will carry on as if it never happened. What incentive do they have to apologize? Mormons aren't a large enough minority for them to care about, and honestly, are you going to stop watching ESPN because of this? Yeah, me neither.
