The Derek Fisher Situation

Post#1 » by loserX » Fri May 9, 2008 5:29 pm

Hi, everyone:

Just wanted to leave a pre-emptive message here. I think we all know that when the Lakers play in SLC these next 2 games (and game 6 ;) ) that there are going to be fans in the crowd who boo Derek Fisher.

I am not going to get into the backstory for it, or whether or not it's justifiable. I don't think anyone particularly cares about my opinion on the subject anyway ;)

But I will say that mods on the Laker board and General board, and now this board, are going to be on the lookout for the flame wars that inevitably erupt when this happens. I think the subject has more than worn out its welcome.

Lakers fans, please understand that no matter what you think of the booing, it is not the entire fanbase who does it or supports it. Please do not paint all Jazz fans with the same brush, and do not use it as an excuse to troll here.

Jazz fans, if someone does make an insulting or inappropriate comment, please do not return fire. Just report the post and ignore the poster. You are responsible for your own posts, and you do not have free rein to retaliate with similar insults. Flaming on either side will not be allowed.

As always, nothing wrong with a little CIVIL, good-natured, basketball-related smack now and then ;) All I ask is that we leave the Fisher situation out of it; everything that needs to be said has been said, and we really don't need any more bashing on these boards.

Thanks to everyone, enjoy the game, and GO JAZZ!

on a similar note, this is the 1 year anniversary to the day from when fisher went from new york to the ESA and captured a great moment in jazz history.

I don't live in LA or SLC, but I know Derek Fisher is a class act and the Utah Jazz is a classy franchise.

This should be a great series to watch! May the best team win! :D

Good post LoserX.

These discussions about the fans/city behavior aren't that basketball related in my mind. If you want to talk about the Jazz that's fine with me. But, leave the fans alone. Attacking the fans will be seen as Trolling in my mind, and since I"m a mod, that means I can do something about it.

If you want to come in here and talk a little smack about the Jazz, I'm totally fine with that. But, when you come in here bashing fans/city/religion that's trolling and you can expect a suspension.
"Thibs called back and wanted more picks," said Jorge Sedano. "And Pat Riley, literally, I was told, called him a mother-bleeper and hung up the phone."

I've already stated my case in this matter http://www.realgm.com/boards/viewtopic.php?p=16375361#16375361 Fisher was great while he was here, but i'm glad he's gone. Brewer has improved greatly in his absense, we saved a load of cap space and personally i think we are a better team without him. He wanted PG minutes, and that's not happening here. The way he played in Game 2 is something i never saw from him while he was here in Utah. He's playing way better now than he ever did with us, we have a short memory if we already forget the number of layups he blew last year against Houston. Can't remember which game, but i know he cost us one game with his late drive attempt.

Personally I think the booing is very stupid, I'll be at the game and I wont be booing. Him leaving actually benefitted the Jazz, now the Jazz have a real two guard starting at the two spot. also, last year a lot of Jazz fans hated Fisher because he made stupid mistakes. I say let bygones be bygones. Fisher gave the Jazz one of their great moments in franchise history, lets just leave it at that.

You are just falling for the poor fisher crap. BOOOO HIMMMM, he is the enemy now.

Did you read in ESPN today about his interview with JA Adande?

"Fisher wasn't happy initially when he was traded from Golden State to Utah in 2006. It was the first time he had been traded, and it bothered him that the Warriors never gave him a hint it was coming. But his season there marked the first time he was the oldest player on an NBA team, getting him ready for the important role he is playing on the Lakers this season"

Remember what he told us? He was reluctant to report. He said that he had nothing against Utah or the team personnally, but he knew he was going to get traded but he thought and wanted to be traded somewhere else.

We all know he meant the Lakers. That little lying backstabbing troll. Lied again. I am going to find the link to the comments about fisher and email them to JA Adande, see if he will call out the NBA's Sweetheart. Nothing will make me sicker than hearing Utah cheer a player on the opposite team in a playoff game.

Same here, it just a game, and Fisher is in the way of our Championship right now. So have fun with it. Do whatever so the Jazz will win the next two games.

Fisher is a liar. He used his child's illness as an excuse for his own benefit. That makes him unethical as well. I hate him. I wish I would be there booing him tonight.

Um, yeah, this is the kind of thing this thread was meant to avoid. Boo him if you want to boo him, but let's keep the discussion here about BASKETBALL. The other issues just start completely unnecessary arguments and flaming.

please give some credit to Mickael Pietrus.
That game went to overtime because he choked on the free throw line.
Remember? the Warriors blew a 5 point lead with 53 seconds to go.
Viva Air France!
Fisher's 3 point shot was in overtime already.
I hope you beat L.A. tonight....

I wish Derek Fisher nothing but the best in his personal life, but he's
a flopper on the basketball court.

I can see how the casual fan thinks that Fisher lied and cheated the Jazz. I don't think that he was full open and strongly hinted that he was headed to the east coast. The fans aren't booing Fisher the person. They are booing Fisher the player. There isn't a single person in SLC/Utah that doesn't hope his daughter recovers.

I think he is taking it WAY too personally. Jazz fans aren't booing his daughter or family, and it's ridiculous to see it that way. They are simply booing the jersey, and many feel strongly that he lied.

I wouldn't boo, but I don't see the problem with it. He gets payed to play a game. He's a big boy. He can handle it.

The whole "Why can't you Utah fans" etc. etc. Do not group everyone together and imply that they all act the same way, or imply that the whole group are somehow in the wrong. Some people boo Fisher for different reasons, and some don't boo him at all. Inflammatory accusations and stereotyping are not necessary or interesting. Let's just discuss the game, please.

I was obviously talking about the people in the Arena tonight who booed Fisher when he got the ball and cheered when he got 2 fouls and left the game. But the Boozer situation is true right you didn't answer that part of the post.

So Jazz fans can't cheer when an opponent gets two early fouls?
