OT: League to fine floppers

Post#1 » by GP » Thu May 29, 2008 9:46 am

Thought this was an interesting article, right now in basketball, I despise flopping, so this is welcome news. I would be curious to see how they are going to implement this rule and if the rule would apply to both sides of the court, not only defensive moves, but for players, who when tapped, go flying.

It is about time. The NHL instituted that policy for "diving" some time ago. Nice to see the NBA admit it's a problem.

Well, Collins role is even further diminished now.

It will be interesting to see how the fines are handed out. It's going to be really tough to decide what is a flop and what isn't.

I think fines will only be issued when its beyond question that it was a flop.

I swear I'm not trolling for an argument, but with this news, your front office might give serious thought to trading Harpring now, before the season starts.

**Proof I'm not trolling** I really like the energy and hustle he brings.

^I just hope they don't make it retroactive. They'd bankrupt poor Vlade Divac.

forget the fines, I WANT SUSPENTIONS!

Seriously, this is the most critical problem in the NBA right now, ever more than the incompetent refs (though that is a chicken and egg arguement).

I doubt that these fines are enough to change the value of anyone.

Just lip service to the problem if you ask me.
"Thibs called back and wanted more picks," said Jorge Sedano. "And Pat Riley, literally, I was told, called him a mother-bleeper and hung up the phone."

This will be as effective as when they decieded to "take the emotion" out of the league with that new Technical rule. Until they take out referee bias and inconsistency then the NBA will continue to be the NFL and MLBs bitch. This will do nothing.

Unfortunately, this will probably do nothing. Is this the same as when they said they were going to call the offense for the foul when they initiate it or call traveling more? It'll be a few games at the start of the season and then back to the same old thing. Any superstar that does it won't get called/fined for it.

Battier won't have a single fine next season. I'll bet you $1000.

There's a difference between a flop and a charge. As a Utah fan, you should know that.

And so ends the last bit of usefulness that belonged to Jarron Collins.

Is this grounds for the Lakers to reconstruct Derek Fishers contract?

It about time, I agree. BUT
the root of the problem is the refs, this is just a band-aid put on the wrong spot. Flopping comes because players get tired of the refs not making the call and they have to show them it's a foul...more so on offense than defense. So it will help the defensive flopping but creating a problem on offense

I bet Luis Scola of the Rockets is packing his stuff and returning home after he heard this new. This guy (Scola) is an complete expert at flopping I'm telling ya and if he could, he'd be teaching a class called Flopping in the NBA 101. :wizard:
