This thing, this freakish compulsion, may be the hardest element of the game to quantify. There are no plus-minus stats to measure a player's ruthlessness, his desire to beat his opponent so badly he'll need therapy to recover. One thing's for sure: You can't teach it. If so, Eddy Curry would be All-NBA and Derrick Coleman would be getting ready for his induction ceremony in Springfield, Mass. But people know it when they see it. G.M.'s, coaches and scouts cite only a few others who have a similar drive -- Tim Duncan, Kevin Garnett, Manu Gin

People don't like Kobe because of his arrogance, but he definitely is on a higher level as a player.

He also is an admitted rapist. He should be in prison right now but because he plays ball and because he has money he isnt. I will never say anything positive about the dude.

I won't buy that kind of catch 22.

Kobe may or may not be a rapist, but it has no bearing on the fact that he is easily the best player in the league. For the record, I think it's a little bit ridiculous to conclude so adamantly that he is a rapist when you really have no idea. It's fine if you think he is and if you don't like him for that reason or any other, but you shouldn't act like you know something for certain when you don't. There's plenty of reason to believe that he is not a rapist.

I was shown in a college course a video of Kobe Bryant admitting that what went on with that woman was not consensual.

Well, I'll admit I haven't seen that video. I have, however, seen a video of Kobe jumping over a moving car and I'm pretty sure that wasn't real. I don't like Kobe all that much as a person either, but I'm not sure he's a rapist. We'll just have to agree to disagree.
Anyways, this thread wasn't about whether or not Kobe's a rapist, but about our boy Deron. I have to agree with the praise: he's got tremendous drive, competitiveness, toughness and killer instinct. If only Boozer had those same characteristics, we might still be playing.

And if you plan on winning an NBA title - listen up, Spurs and Suns - you cannot blow 20-point leads or give away games in a best-of-seven matchup. It

It could be argued that Paul is a better player. I don't take offense that most people believe such. However, I'd still take Deron any day of the week.
