The Jazz have to keep this guy. If we have to trade Almond then so be it but Korver is very valuabe to this team and Brewer is only going to get better. CJ has so much upside even when he gets in the game for a few minutes he contributes but he is also getting a lot bigger as well. If i had to choose from Brewer and Miles I would also take Miles. Miles is going to be the player that we will all regret if he leaves because he is going to be a good player and can shoot the ball very well. I hope we keep him.

Why? Money? nope Playing time? Nope.

Dallas cant give him more money then 2-3 mil per and from the sounds of Carlises introduction they want to get role players that can help them win now.

You realize he's a restricted free agent, right? Jazz can match any offer.

Yes I realize he's a restricted FA but I don't think the Jazz will match any high offers.

by your logical Deron will be on his way there as well.

He has a better chance to start here and has better chemistry and friends here. Jazz have the inside track. Guaranteed money will be the only factor in where CJ signs. Not being from a place.

:banghead:

You really dont get the point do you. Your argument to counter me saying Dallas has little shot of stealing CJ from us was thats his home town team. I countered by saying thats the same for Deron.

Maybe I shouldnt use analogies.

How bout I spell it out for you.

The Jazz will match up to 3 mil per for CJ. The Mavs biggest concern is frontcourt depth. They will go after Diop and he will command at least 70% of their MLE. Other players they will find through trades. I highly doubt they will even be able to offer CJ anything more then 2.5 mil per.

Will CJ be here? Who knows. Its going to take a team offering him 3+ mil for Utah to back away. Even if they dont and say CJ get a deal worth 14mil over 4 yrs it might end up being a bargain for Utah if he develops. Knowing how young CJ is his agent will be smart and keep him in a short term (3yr) deal so he can hit FA in his prime. That is even more of a reason why Utah might match because they wont have a long term commitment to his contract.

With Maggette, Deng, Gordon, Childress, Smith, Azuibuike, Barnes, George and many other swingmen out there with very few teams under the cap I dont see CJ getting big bucks.

Speaking about Maggette . . . sign and trade for AK? I think that Maggette would play better with Brew. I think he makes defenses work harder against. He's brilliant at getting to the line which will put teams in the penalty quicker. I want it. I need it. Lets do it.

Dallas guy over here, just wanted to check to see what was being said since we are watching the Miles situation.

For Diop, I think 70% is a stretch. Most of us think it will take maybe a slight pay increase or the same amount to sign him in Dallas. So that would be more along the lines of 50 percent, 2 to 2.5 mil. He has a home in the Dallas area, and he likes Cuban, Dirk and the organization as a whole. The only problem he had was with Avery. They never meshed and Avery was trying to make him more than what he was and not putting him in spots to succeed so he fell into the "doghouse." Diop has said he would love to come back to Dallas now that some changes have been made...and the only one so far has been the coach...haha.

So, the next thing we're looking at is S&T avenues with NJ for Diop, they might be inclined to do that as well. There are minimal pieces here and there that could help facilitate that. If that does happen, then we'll have the full MLE to offer.

Now will teams try to overpay for Diop? Possibly. Right now he isn't worth more than 3 million per. He didn't wow anyone in NJ. He knows Dallas is the sure fire way to help him produce and make more money down the road. If someone overpays for him, we'll look at trades or look at Vet min. options for the big man spot. Then that still leaves pretty much the full MLE.

I'm not sure ultimately how much Cuban will shell out to make an offer but most of us are hoping that it's more than half. Our list of FAs is pretty short, Diop and Miles are at the top of the list.

Playing time will easily be available for him. Best case, he could be a starter right out of the gate, worst case, he's the 7-9th man off the bench. So there is definitely playing time for him.

Not trying to start anything! Just giving you the real Dallas perspective.

1. If Dallas think that they are severely overrating what Miles is today. Down the road he could be a very solid player, but right now he still makes the mistakes you expect a 21 year old to make, at times he tries to do far too much, and some times he comes out and looks absolutely lost.

2. If Dallas was really thinking about starting him they would be conceding that they are done competing for championships, Miles shouldn't be starting on a contending team.

3. While I agree he is ready for real minutes, he's still a gamble if he gets them. He's very much an unproven product, especially in a new system that he wouldn't be familiar with in Dallas, especially in a system that is being completely rebuilt with a new coach.

We think he can be a very good guard in the league. We've seen what he can do in limited time and that he can be productive in those minutes. I didn't mean he would come in and be the starter right away, but it could be there...in the sense that minutes are available vs the situation in Utah.

It's not like the system is completely foreign to him or that its already advanced learning for the current players. We've been STUCK in an ISO offense for the past few years so it's going to be a motion offense now. That caters more to our main weapons. I don't see how that can't help Miles. It should actually be easier for Miles. Everyone is on the same level with learning the terminology and the style with the new coach.

Umm no offense BG3eb but I disagree with your and "we"(assuming other Dallas fans) assessment of Miles. You guys have seen him what 3 times? Your team is win now, win in the next 3 yrs and then its over. They are not going to sign Miles with the intention of him being a possible starter. You will go after established people in the league.

Hate to burst your bubble bro, but with 8 players on your roster(assuming Eddie Jones uses his PO) and you are already over the tax line. Your not gonna spend your entire MLE on CJ and Diop and of your FA George is the only one I believe has bird rights.

Your gonna spend your MLE on players you know can compete and get the job done, not a kid trying to find himself.

Sure Cuban isnt afraid to pay, he will sign Diop, you will resign George because you can. What about Stack? You will sign another player with the vet min, perhaps a 2nd rnder makes it. Thats 12, you really think a team with these players is gonna win a title? Or did Cuban eff your team and any chance of u ever winning a title up?

Sure Im afraid to lose CJ, but not to Dallas. Dallas has NO SHOT whatsoever at signing CJ away from the Jazz.

I think your pigeon-holing us and just assuming we just watch our own games, we do watch other teams and take note about what their own fans say about their players. I haven't seen anyone on here who has said that he is going to be a bust or that he doesn't deserve more playing time. Ya'll have said that he has the potential to be a stud and has a very promising future.

I re-stated and corrected my point about the starter thing. Minutes are much more available for him in Dallas. George will stay on for a decent amount or be dealt in a S&T move.

I don't know what you're talking about with Stack...he's signed on. He is for next year and part of the year after is partially guaranteed. Eddie Jones is going to come back or retire. Malik Allen is coming back very cheaply for insurance as a big or gone. Antoine Wright is going to come back, he's already said he wants to stay and management agrees that they want him to stay on board. Not sure of the logistics, but I think he had the rights in NJ. You can correct me on that if I'm wrong. We have our 2 second rounders from last year who spent time in Europe and performed or showed flashes and are already back in the area working out (they'll be cheap). We want guys that are young, athletic, versatile and hungry.

Dallas isn't as far away as you think. It wasn't Cuban who "effed up the team." It's pretty well established in our area, maybe not so much nationally, Avery lost the team and they stopped listening to him. That goes from the top (Dirk) down. He mismanaged Kidd and had man-crushes on vets past their prime. Carlisle has brought a fresh new voice and energy and everyone is very excited. He brings the defense is promising a new revamped motion offense.

Diop is going to be a primary target and should be able to be had. Next is going to be the wing/athletic player. Our list isn't very long and he's near the top of it. Like you said, Cuban isn't afraid to pay...he bit the bullet on getting Kidd, so he's looking to win and get younger athletic players to go along with the ride.

I wonder if San Antonio would try to go after CJ. They're getting older, and at very least, CJ can stand in the corner shooting threes (ala Bowen, Finley, Barry, and Udoka).

Re-sign CJ pay the man! He has done everything we asked of him since he got here. He is going to be a 4th year vet and was still one of the ten youngest players in the league (last high school draft class).

He needs to take Harpring's minutes...I would rather keep CJ than Harp or Korver.

He is ready for a role of 16-22 mins per night.

Can he play defense for that long?
