OT: Tim Russert

Post#1 » by JStockLivesOn » Fri Jun 13, 2008 10:21 pm

I don't know how many of you on here are engaged in politics or even sustain a passing interest, but Tim Russert of NBC's "Meet the Press" has sadly died at the age of 58.

Tim is a giant in American journalism, perhaps the most assiduous newsman of the past 50 years. Incredibly well-researched and thorough, Tim was renowned for being remarkably tough, but fair in his every interview. His political leanings and sensibilities were taken with him to his grave, and in this new era of Keith Olbermann and Bill O'Reilly, that is an amazing thing.

This nation is now poorer for his absence. As good a journalist as he was, all who knew him assert that he was an even better man. I met him briefly at Dulles in Washington, and he was warm, generous, and gracious with his time.

If any of you would like to share your own thoughts, please do.

Yeah, I've been watching MSNBC for about an hour with their coverage of Tim Russert.

Really a great journalist, a superb media host, and a fair and equal mediator.

This election will have a completely different feel with out his presence, it's a shame he was so young.

Meet the Press was one of the few political talk shows I actually enjoyed.

Fully agree. He was one of the few that I could even stomach, let alone the fact he was actually pleasant. Today is a sad day for the nation.

Russert was one of the few media members you could trust to keep his biases to himself. He was the best interviewer on television. I'll defintiely miss his presence on Meet the Press.
