Deron Williams and Booz on US National Team

Post#1 » by fivas14 » Wed Jun 18, 2008 8:02 am

Booz is almost certain to be on the team but dwill was on the bubble. Chauncey Billups withdrew his name from consideration today so that leaves 3 PGs...is he in?

That is a misleading headline.

My biased opinion is that DWill should be a shoo-in. Reality tells me he won't make it, which is fine with me. Having him watch Chris Paul make it over him will just add more fuel the the fire.

Should Booz make it? NO WAY IN HELL

As a non american Jazz fan , i'd like that :
- Boozer is selected. Dude has been very bad in the playoffs , he really could use a summer with some of the best american players . I hope players like Bryant , Kidd or others will criticize his defense during practice so that he understand he needs to improve greatly to contend one day for a title.
- Deron is not selected. Deron is already a great point guard. IMO he is the best in the world right now. Team USA can't teach him that much right now. The rest would be more beneficiary. I want him to rest and be at 100% for next season.

But frankly , it would be just stupid for team USA to not select Deron. He may be the best shooter on the roster. i just laugh at the idea of him not getting picked.

Team USA will carry 3 PGs, this has been the plan since Colangelo and Coach K took over. The higher ups in team USA like Deron a lot, even more so then Paul because he is bigger and stronger and a lot of the PGs internationally are bigger.

Deron and Boozer are both locks. Especially with Billups pulling out I cant see why any of you would say Deron should but wont. Is Kirk Hinrich gonna get in over Deron or something.

Thanks Shiek. It'll be "awesome'' watching Deron and Booz against the best players in the world, hopefully they see the court.

I think Deron is pretty much a lock and the fact that he can run in the backcourt with Kidd or Paul just makes it that much easier to carry 3 PG's.

I think the fact that Deron is by far the most diverse PG of the three. He is the best three point shooter by a significant margin, has the best size, and has the best ability to play multiple positions, namely either guard spot.

Kidd should start because he can literally take 0 shots and just feed everyone else and be a great addition to the team. Deron should be the main back up because he can exploit the short 3P shot, and he is a better fit for a the International game then Paul.

Paul should be the 3rd string PG to come in as a change of pace guy and someone who can get into the lane and open things up for the outside shooters if that is ever needed during the games.

Deron is infinitely more valuable in an international setting than Paul. It would be ludicrous for him to be left off the roster.

Deron Williams shoots well and he distributes the ball effectively. He's the best PG the USA team can find.

Both are pretty much locks. Boozer is a lead-pipe lock, actually. His ties with Coach K have guaranteed him a spot, and Deron isn't far off.

I just read on ESPN.com that (I just can't stop myself from laughing) Wade, Paul and... that's right, Kidd will be the guards so far... Nothing like rewarding a MEDIOCRE season (at best) with a chance to play for your country. IF DWill gets snubbed from this roster, I wouldn't be surprised if we repeated our last Olympic performance. Jason frickin Kidd...

BTW, if Boozer gets in, maybe he will grow a sack playing against the lanky euro centers without the pressure of the real playoffs.

Best of luck to deron and ooze, especially deron.

If Deron is indeed on the team, it might be the first time i really care to watch team USA play in the olympics. Hopefully deron goes out there and shows THE WORLD what he is made of.

Maybe Boozer can find his game overseas, because it's certainly not anywhere in the United States...

That puts the preconfirmed to make the team:

Kidd, Williams, CP3
Kobe, Wade, Redd
King James, Anthony, Prince
Boozer
Howard

That makes 11 and I would assume the other has to be a big. With Chandler saying he didn't make it and Stoudemire pulling out my thoughts go to Bosh, West, KG. Who else could it be? I know I might be missing someone.

Yeah, they definitely need another big guy in there, and someone with some athleticism.

It will have to be Bosh, but that leaves them mighty thin up front on the 12 man Roster with only Boozer, Howard and Bosh.

It's Bosh, they've already said it.

KG isn't in the mix, doesn't want to be on the team and Chandler said he's not on the team.

I don't believe in god bu t I will be praying they don't get hurt.

Of course Kidd was going to make the team. He's 38-0 overseas and plays with Lebron perfectly. He thrives in the international and has the experience and leadership we need. Kidd will start but not play starter minutes with Dwill and Paul backing him up.

Carmelo will start for sure. He's always the leader of team USA (how, I have no idea).

Kidd, Williams, CP3
Kobe, Wade, Redd
Anthony, Prince
James, Boozer
Howard, Bosh

If Bosh is really going to play then team USA made a big mistake, cause he's a small body for center. I mean between the power fowards and centers you only have 3, and only one legit body for center, while 3 SFs, 3 SGs, and 3 PGs? Um, what were they thinking?
