Maybe everyone else already knew this, but it sounds like there won't be a NBA draft party tomorrow at the arena.
I don't understand this - the Jazz have done one every year, and I was really looking forward to it.
I just spoke to one of the ticket reps, and they said that it's due to the low pick the Jazz have this year not warranting enough interest. That doesn't make sense though as we typically pick low every year with the exception of the year we drafted Deron..
Does anyone else know a better reason why they decided to cancel it this year?

Well, we won't know if it is a conspiracy for another 36 hours. They had them for the 28th or 30th pick years and there were people there.

Re: No draft party tomorrow
Speculation is that O'Connor hates being in the arena in front of everyone and trying to talk to other GMs on his phone with the acoustics.
Also, there is a better than slim chance that the Jazz may trade out of the pick leaving lots of people sitting around eating hot dogs and coke and walking out of the arena seeing nothing more than a trade for a future first round pick. They did the pre-draft panel this year instead--probably as a compromise.

Re: No draft party tomorrow
They should do a set up where there is a Radio host doing a talk show and multi media presentations of drafts past and let the crew work outside the bowl. He can come in afterwards and say nice things about the pick after the commish announcement. Probably too much on short notice to set up, especially for a low pick.

Re: No draft party tomorrow
The "not enough interest in #23" line is pure spin from the Jazz. It seems pretty obvious that the Jazz are preparing to do something that might be controversial, and KOC doesn't feel like getting booed (again) at the microphone.
My guess is, they are going to move or sell their first rounder unless a way is found to get Hibbert. A Boozer or AK47 trade would also not surprise me in the least.
The Boozer thing, especially, is inriguing, since the Jazz seem to be de-emphasizing him all of a sudden. You would think that his face would be plastered all over the web site due to his Team USA berth. Instead, the Jazz are completely ignoring that aspect of the story.

Re: No draft party tomorrow
I enjoy the draft parties. I was probably going to go again this year. I wouldn't be surprised if we move the pick. I won't be too upset if that happens.
"Thibs called back and wanted more picks," said Jorge Sedano. "And Pat Riley, literally, I was told, called him a mother-bleeper and hung up the phone."

The Jazz can only draft a player for another team. The Jazz cannot trade any 1rst round picks until the Kile Korver trade w/ the 1rst round pick is satisfied. All they could do is draft for someone else then trade players.

They have 1 roster spot available.

That's not the issue. Teams can not trade future picks in consecutive seasons.

Re: No draft party tomorrow
The Jazz can still trade for a future first, they just have to pick for the team they are trading with.
I dont think they will trade the pick. At 23 its a crap shoot. Your either gonna get a solid rotation guy, maybe a starter or your gonna get Curtis Borchardt.
Lets be real honest, adding someone like Hibbert would be great, but in reality our rotation will pretty much be the same unless we get injuries and regardless of what we do, we will still be a playoff team and nothing we do in this draft is gonna take us to the finals. Its gonna be what we do in the off-season and in training camp. So if the Jazz take a guy like Ibaka or Jordan then so be it. They either pan out to be a rotation guys, maybe starters or nothing. Its gonna be the same with almost ever draft pick, but perhaps Hibbert.

Re: No draft party tomorrow
Having no draft party might actually mean pick a certain player for a nba team then trading it to that team. It'll depend though if Hibbert is still on the board, the jazz won't trade. ^^;
