Fear or not, in needs to be done

I really think if Boozer is...or...even if we aren't at least 95% sure whether Carlos is going to stay. Then we shouldn't even gamble with that doubt and just get something now and I know you don't run your franchise in fear of somehting happening but I think in this case as many other sports columnists have said that when you play with a snake don't be surprised if you get bitten, so I think in this situation you have to manage the franchise in fear of it happening cause Carlos Boozer has done it before, and really hasn't given us any real assurance that anything has changed with him.

So in that case I think Emeka Okafor has the style and build of what we are doing in our system, and I think we take a serious long look at acquiring him, cause Elton Brand is going to resign with L.A., and he is really the only other player I could see thats was obtainable to fill the role of a system that centers around the point guard and power forward. And if not Okafor, then who do you go after? And please no unrealistic scenerios.

Okafor would be great here. He is a good defender at the power forward position .

The other scenarios could be : Chris Kaman (especially if Brand doesn't goes back to the clipps) , Andrew Bogut in both case we slide Okur to the 4 spot. Okur is not a real center.

Yeah there was recent thread about okafor

okfar 25 on qualifying offer of like 7 milllion.

Points/Game (PPG) 13.8
Rebounds/Game (RPG) 10.7
Steals 62
Blocks (BLK) 138
Assists/Game (APG) 0.9

Boozer 26 11,593,817 / $12,657,233 PO

Points/Game (PPG) 21.1
Rebounds/Game (RPG) 10.4
Steals 100
Blocks (BLK) 41
Assists/Game (APG) 2.9

I like okafors grit and i like his post play we can make up the offensive lost i feel. I think the bobcats are trying to get okafor to a new deal. I dont think they would do a straight up trade with boozer knowing he can opt out next year.

That's something that's missing in the Boozer discussion. Let's look as this logically...

If we start from the premise that Boozer is going to skip town to Miami, and that's why the Jazz need to trade him, then why would any NBA team give us fair value for him? For instance, why would the Bobcats serve up Okafor for Boozer? Our trading Carlos would basically be proof that he's opting out for Miami. Thus, it would be clear to Charlotte that Booz was only theirs for a single year. Why would they do the trade then?

"Fear or not, in needs to be done."

Read that title out loud to yourself.

Doesnt seem like it was written by a 4 year old Korean boy?

ok, if carlos leaves he will NOT be screwing us! the contract we signed him to gives him every right to opt out and go somewhere else if he chooses and by choosing another team he wont be doing the same thing to us that he did to cleveland. In cleveland he told lies about signing later and he has made no such promise here. seriously everyone needs to sit back and relax everything will take care of itsself.

thanks racer x. but to answer the question above, I don't think he is going to screw us like how he did Cleveland, but if we really feel that he is going to opt out and go somewhere else cause we don't want to offer him max money. Maybe for Booze the next team we trade him to will be able to just use his services for one year and make a run at him with an offer or free up some cap space. I really do want him to prove many jazz fans and myself wrong and sign a contract a little less than a max contract, but we all know Carlos won't do that. Because we can't afford three max contracts.

Boozer will sign with the Jazz next off-season and stay with Williams in Utah.

Do you actually know this or are you just saying it?

Why do you all assume that he screwed Cleveland?

The way it looked to me is that THEY tried to screw him and he just plain out maneuvered them.

I don't think he is going anywhere.

Aren't you the same people who fought with the folks from the Cleveland board and had his back?

Yeah, I never felt bad about the Cleveland deal.

Cleveland wanted to give him 5 mil per year, the Jazz offered double that. It was their fault, and they were the ones trying to be cheap.

Me either.

I'm still behind Booz but I'm afraid he'll leave and our team will be put back 2 years. But every Jazz fan should have that worryness.

Agreed. The other fact missing, is that the "handshake" deal was illegal (according to NBA rules). So Cleveland was trying to get an unfair advantage. He broke his word on an illegal deal, let not blow things out of proportion. As far as if he stays, I have no idea, I can't imagine the altitude in Utah is great for his son's sickle cell anemia, I would imagine it could exacerbates his condition. If my son was in the same situation, I would definitely consider taking less money to go to a team where the altitude is lower.

Exactly. That's the bit that always made me crack up. Wow, he didn't hold up his end of an illegal deal? Poor Cavs; you have my sympathy.

This is the contract we signed Boozer to. It gives him the option to opt-out. Should he choose to do so and sign with another team for any reason at any price, he'll in no way be a traitor.

What?!

CLEVELAND WAS the ones who said they let him go with a wink and a hand shake so they could squirm around the rules. Boozer response shows me he ISN"T a snake and didn't go along with the illegal dealings. What would you do without a contract after the team releases you and gives you nothing in writing to play the game of basketball.???? .....Get out of there and, grap a decent contract and play ball! Jazz knew is value and went after him after Cleveland hung him out to dry. (Same thing memphise would have done with Gasol, but Lakers granted off of that situation) This is why Labron took 3 years and will be gone from that corrupt organization when his time is up.

^^ Exactly, guys good points, I personally would like boozer to stay, but if he goes, he's doing what best for him and his family. Of course, that being the case, I am sure the jazz are exploring trades so that they can do what best for the organization.

What you gotta realize is that yes, he's gonna do whats best for his family, and Miami could potentially offer MORE money than Utah would be willing to fork out.. So not only his he taking the bigger paycheck, but he is doing whats morally right and move closer to the health for his family

In the end, Utah can offer more if they want to.
